Default INFO NEEDED ON JDM B20B AUTO SWAP IN EJ6

So I found this b20b for sale: http://jdmengineland.com/index.php?m...oducts_id=1030

It's going for $550.00 with no transmission, I figured the tranny on the b20 would be useless to me anyways. And so I would like to ask you guys for advise on what's needed for this swap to happen.

A: What automatic transmission would you recommend with this motor.
B: Do I use the current ecu that I have in the car, or would I need to use another one.
C: Since the car is non vtec, can I still use the same engine harness for the b20 from the d16, or will modification need to be done?
D: What mounts can I use? I know on the manual engines, I can use the ones from an SIR or SI in US for the dual cam engines. Should I ask the shop if they have stock jdm mounts for the b-series, as there's a lot of automatics in Japan.

Current engine in the car is a d16y7 non vtec with automatic transmission. The swap will be done on a 2000 Honda Civic EX (4 door), daily driver. Current engine is getting close to 300,000 km/s and so I'm looking to swap for something with lower mileage and with a little bit more power and torque to it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

-Alex

It is more expensive, labor intensive to have a B-series auto installed on an auto Civic. It's cheaper and easier to convert it to manual. There is a lot of cutting involved.

I will be doing the swap with friends. You mentioned cutting, can you elaborate?

Also, I'm not sure what the laws are in Canada, but check with your local inspection station. In the States, the B20 is classified as a light duty truck motor, and a B20 swap is illegal on a federal level.

You are going from OBD2B to OBD2B, so the plugs shouldn't be a problem. You will need to source an OBD2B ECU for the motor, as your D16Y7 ECU will not be able to run the DOHC B20B.

Like furious said, an auto B swap is a royal pain in the ***. Mounts and frame work are completely different, and the level of modification required is, quite plainly, beyond your skill if you're asking about it.

I'm not sure on the law side of things. I would love to convert the car to manual, but unfortunately the wife has to drive the car too, and trust me, she's not willing to learn. I would really like to put in a b-series without any hassle and for a reasonable price. I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on this, and so what would you recommend for a swap?.. I know the b20 has torque, and I like that, it's way better then the d16.. is there anything you guys can recommend as an alternative?

Honest alternative recommendation? Re-ring, replace the bearings, and replace the seals of the D, and buy a second shell to work on with whatever motor and transmission you want. If you think you're comfortable doing a D to B swap, you should be more than comfortable overhauling the engine in the car right now.

not the answer I was hoping for.. :/ are you telling me there's no other automatic motor that can go into this car apart from another d-series..

Not easily, no. You could try a D17 from an 01-04(?) Civic, but I can't promise you won't run into the same problems, and it'll still be a gutless whimp.

Yes, as stated above you have to cut/weld/fabricate the B-series auto tranny. You are better off buying another car. If you have someone else do it, it will be expensive. If you do it, you just may not be able to. It sucks I know. =(
