Auto trans problem
Got a friend with an accord that has a F22 in it. The problem is, when you first start the car it will go in all gears. But after a little while it won't go in any gear. The fluid is good, at the correct level and not burnt. I don't know the condition of the filter. This has got me baffled. Any help is appreciated.
Oh it's a 96. Don't have a code reader to read the codes. I'm trying to find one now. I'm just try to use all my sources to help a friend. I'm not much help as I have no experience with auto transmissions.
Well first of all it has no filter. Are you checking the fluid level running or off? Hondas should be checked when the engine is off and preferably when everything has pretty much cooled down.
14x,xxx. he's trying to avoid replacing it if he doesn't have to. Not worth puttin a new trans in it nor rebuilding it, if it's gonna cost almost as much as the cars worth.
Checking it when it's off in park after one heat cycle

no filter??? lmao what are you on crack? ive opened two of these and they do have a filter in them lmao
No actually you must be on crack if you think Honda transmissions have filters. Only thing they have is a magnet on the drain plug and a magnet stuffed inside. Think before you speak moron
really??? so what i saw when i opened up my two transmissions wasn't a filter.
i wonder what this is hear????? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0073&ppt=C0338 mmm i wonder why they list that its compatible with honda transmissions.. same here http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/PX4B.html .... and here read on http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you...nd_where_is_it
so should i post the parts list for that picture of my manual or are you done trying to make me look stupid. and not to say IVE OPENED TWO OF THESE TRANSMISSION OPEN INCLUDING THAT OF A 97. BOTH HAD FILTERS INSIDE. so i think this time you should be the one to think before speaking *MORON*
I would check transmission pressure. Keep a gauge attached and drive the car until it stops moving, note if there is a pressure difference.
If the fluid has never been changed it is possible that the filter inside the transmission is picking up enough particles to block the sump. Turn off the engine, the pump stops pulling fluid, and the particles stuck to the filter fall off the media and the pickup is clear enough to work again.
Drain and change the fluid. If the drain plug is covered in material then it has been due for a change.
Check the H4A link in my sig.

To the OP:
Just to be clear, b/c the other 2 guys were busy, the tranny does have a filter but it's not some thing you have to replace unless you drop the tranny. So all you need to do is replace the fluid with new Honda's fluid only. It will take about 2.5-2.7quart. Then drive it for about 500 miles drain it again and replace. Then once more at 1000 miles. That should leave about 80% new fluid mix with old.
I would pull the TCU to check the caps condition. I think any shop would have a code reader to give you the answer.

Worked on it today. Just changed the the fluid and it was dirty as ****. It was full of metal shavings like the fluid was never changed. On the first change the car acted way better but the problem still happened. Before it would take about 2 minutes of rest before it would move again, now it takes about 30 sec. I'm thinking the filter is gettin so stopped up, that it's just not letting the fluid pass thru properly.
I'm going to drop the trans and split it to look inside. Hopefully a good cleaning will fix it. Stay tuned....
