Skunk 2 alpha to stock exhaust ?
i dont see why not, it might remove your cat tho, unless only the megapower does that, it still connects in the same spot and the flange should be the same, stock exhaust and aftermarket have the same flange where the cat-back joins the cat.. otherwise youd have to go header-back with aftermarket systems

dont get the skunk2 exhaust, 9 months and the resonator started to make a terrible rattling noise, then at 11 months the tig welds separated at the muffler and started to make a nasty raspy noise, but before all that i loved the sound and quality and looks until all the crap happened.
Hi All,
I own a 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe: Anyone having issues with a bad rattling noise (or loudness issues) after the install of a Skunk2 MegaPower RR 76 mm (3") catback exhaust (doing down pipe soon & not a Skunk2 as mounting flange is funky shape & does not match OEM flange, IMO)? I had mine installed at a non-muffler 'tuner' type shop, called UMS Tuning, here in Mesa, Arizona, USA, for $110.00 USD. As soon as I starting driving the car home, I noticed two issues:
Issue #1: The exhaust was to loud [and will damage your hearing, annoy your passengers, horrible for long trips (over 1 hour), offends other drivers on the road, calls too much attention to your vehicle) and in a bad way (extreme drone upon deceleration), and is so loud that law enforcement will be pulling you over, if they are having a bad day or low quota for the month (excessive dB's).
Quick Fix: Install the Skunk2 'silencer tube' unit (comes with exhaust) to the back of the 4" tailpipe & add a 'lock washer' (not included) to the nut & bolt (requires a 10 mm socket & an adjustable wrench to tightened properly), so silencer will never come loose & pop off, EVER (while driving)! It does not come with a lock washer from Skunk2 direct (or from Amazon dealers/sellers of Skunk2). You can get one for $0.10 USD from your local hardware store. With the silencer tube in, the Skunk2 MegaPower RR (76 mm) 3" is a 100% total joy, IMO. It's way louder than the stock and in a good way. Deep, raspy, exotic super car sounding, & lets people know you mean business when you step on it lightly or hard. I LOVE IT and would never take it off, but AGAIN, only with the 'silencer tube' installed - otherwise I would have to take it off and sell it; as it is not 'refined' enough for daily use (with OEM stock CAT/Downpipe hybrid that comes with car). When I add a downpipe (not Skunk2 Alpha one!) and remove the CAT (will have to use a defouler CEL, here in Arizona USA to pass emissions - comes with some catless downpipes), I will post my impressions again, both with & without the Skunk2 'silencer tube' (see future post coming soon) & excessive dB issues (that break the law & eardrums).
Issue #2: BAD RATTLING PROBLEMS:
Skunk2 MegaPower RR 76 mm (3") catback exhaust RATTLING ISSUES: My exhaust was originally installed (on 06/21/2019), by a 'Tuner' performance shop, called UMS Tuning, here in Mesa, Arizona, USA). They used a floor jack, with only 2 jack stands, lifting up only one side of the car, enough for the tech to do the install. They did not use a car lift (or 4 jack stands - so car would be level 100% during the install), as shop only had one hydraulic floor lift bay & it was taken for a racing Porsche job ticket. Installer/tech, incorrectly tightened up each piece, fully, one piece at a time. Car was not level and he could not (or did not) make any adjustments, in the end, to align the pieces. Car rattled very day from day one! After taking the car back to UMS Tuning, for a second look to resolve bad rattling issues, they put on a thick hanger somewhere in the catback system, and said problem should be fixed. Problem was still there and getting very annoying. Would rattle very bad at a dead stop, was worse when the A/C was full bore, and rattled for a second or two when you shut the engine off. The rattling took the joy out of owning the Skunk2 exhaust and made me a laughing stock, potentially, to any future enthusiasts, who may have noticed this issue, say at a stop light. It was embarrassing so say the least! Since the tuner shop was unwilling to put my car on a car lift (raise 6 feet+ off the ground to really get a better look & a better listen), I decided to take the car to a highly rated custom (& non-custom/aftermarket type) exhaust ONLY shop called Apache Muffler (here in Mesa, Arizona, USA). Shop was outdoor shaded car lifts only (no closed doors), poor parking, and looked a little 'dumpy' (not a dealer type clean service shop) - but looks can be deceiving. After about 20 minutes after handing the keys over to the shops owner, Mr. DANE, he said your problem is fixed & that there is NO CHARGE (adjustments done FOR FREE). He said here were the issues that he (DANE) believes caused the rattling noise:
1.) The Skunk2 MegaPower RR 76 mm (3") custom catback exhaust uses a very large diameter piping compared to the stock exhaust (about 2.25" approx), for only a 201 HP 4 cylinder engine. Thus requires a certain way to install it (must be properly aligned - see below) properly to avoid the 'rattling' issues I had. My install was only done 1/2 way right by tuner shop (UMS). Both guys at UMS did not specialize in installing exhausts (they were butchers, i.e., rookies). It takes many years of installing exhausts before a performance type exhaust can be done 100% correctly. These Skunk2 exhausts are a 'son of a bitch' to install correctly if you do not install exhausts everyday. You may get the thing on, but you will not enjoy it as 90% of Honda enthusiasts who buy these have bad rattling issues, that never get resolved and then can lead to eventual TIG welds breakdown (seems break apart) and you getting rid of the exhaust, or taking it in for welding work. This is a lifetime quality exhaust, IMO, and should last at least for 10 to 20 years of daily driving. Skunk2 is built very well, IMO.
2.) Exhaust must be installed lifting the entire car off the ground (with a hydraulic car lift, preferably), so you can walk under it. You cannot use jack stands (on only one side - will work with 4 jack stands OK ), as the exhaust & car must be 'LEVEL' (i.e., NOT TILTED). If the car is not level, the rattling is the end result as the exhaust's parts will not line up perfectly to make clearance with the subframe & heat shields.
3.) Assembly Advice: To stop rattling 100%, do this step too, per Dane @ Apache Muffler - loosely assemble & tighten all bolts when fitting to the car. DO NOT tighten each piece too much (leave bolts & nuts slightly loose), when attaching the exhaust to the car, initially. If you do, it WILL RATTLE BAD. To fix my very bad rattling issues, Dane said all he did was loosen up the nuts & re-align the pieces again, very carefully, and that it only took him 5 minutes to fix.
4.) WELD SEAMS BREAKING ISSUE: Per Dane, the rattling issues are due to improper alignment & installation techniques (by the young punk at the tuner shop who dod the original install of the exhaust!), and if left untreated will (or may result in) your TIG welded seams to break & come apart due to stress (and forces) applied to your new custom exhaust system.
Advice, if you can't jack your car up on 4 jacks stands, for a DIY install, and get the car perfectly level 100%, then find a good custom exhaust shop, in your area, and let them do the work. It takes about 1 hour to remove the old OEM exhaust (from CAT back) and put the new catback system on, runs about $110.00 USD (here in Arizona USA), for 1 hours labor. Install prices may vary, as I had one place quote me 3 hours & $350.00 USD for the job! So price around.
Final result: Your Skunk2 MegaPower RR 76 mm (3") catback exhaust should never rattle, with OEM cat/downpipe combo. If it does, it was not installed properly. Find a "GOOD" custom muffler shop, and keep taking it back to them if it rattles. This exhaust, with the silencer tube ONLY, is a complete joy to own and I now think I am driving a 'supercar'. I LOVE IT!!!! Send me a note if I can help or call me at 480-464-5547, and ask for Walter, here in Mesa, Arizona, USA. Hope this helps to all members suffering from this issue. It is easy to fix on my 2021 Civic Si Coupe, but takes a little luck in finding the right shop.
