Default Unknown Fuel cut on dyno

i was on the dyno today at full blown motorsports. We were having major issues with ecu/fuel. On my first pull after partial throttle as soon as it hits 5500 it's like fuel cut and throws the mysterious code 68, yes, 68. We thought it could be an ecu issue but swapped it out with another chipped p28, same thing, swapped in an s300 and same thing! He also thought the fuel smelled funny and so we pulled some and it was yellow and smelled bad. There was a quarter tank of 3 year old fuel in there but I drained it(maybe not all) and filled with fresh e85 before tune. I wired my injector resistors online and he thought they may have caused the mysterious code. I will be draining the tank COMPLETELY and change the filter. What do you guys think of this? What could be causing that fuel cut? We couldn't make power cause if this, 175 at 5500 on 7 lbs. Any input would be great!

Forgot to add only under load. Can rev to the moon in neutral. Read some similar issues with gunked up fuel system. I have all new lines but I'll pull the pump and look down in there.

We can't find anything on code 68. I'm not sure what plug wires, brand new from carquest.

If your wires aren't OEM or at least the NGK blue's, I would consider replacing them.

You might be picking up some noise from your ignition system.

As far as I can recall, I had experienced this once couple years back. Did the ECU replacement and all sorts of troubleshooting crap but the issue remains just like you described in your first post.

As soon as I replaced them humongous unknown brand spark plug wires, the CEL and abnormal cut-off issues were complete gone, engine run smoothly as it should be.

on a side note, I've had nothing but bad luck using ignition/distributor parts from anyone other than Honda.

Spend some time on google. if that doesn't work, call hondata and see what they have to say... only an ecu super-geek is going to be able to help with an undocumented code.

Here's something that caught my eye..

Ok the car was obd2 with obd1 engine. The intake air temp on the obd2 car is in the intake pipping, on a obd1 car its in the intake manifold. After I saw that the customer had plugged both in I notice that the power steering switch was plugged into the obd1 Intake air temp on the manifold. After unplugging it the code went away I just thought I would post this for people who are looking for solutions to fixing this issue.

i always use ngk iridium plugs as well.. without issue

Drained tank, it was yellow. Replaced fuel filter and it had chunks in it. Gonna make sure I have the right iat plug on there lol. Gonna throw new plugs in there and try and bring it past 5500 at half throttle. I was also thinking it could be a bad coil.

Sounds like you're getting somewhere..

Sell the wires to someone with a stock engine and buy oem or ngk as suggested. I don't care how much you pay or how nice the brochure looks, most aftermarket wires can't take the abuse (pulling them on/off frequently) and reliability an FI honda needs.

Check the main relay, I know it sounds stupid, but my personal car kept throwing 68 and 69? Where there is no information of... It was also very random. Eventually it got worse, and turned out the solder joints where cracking and as it got warm would cause the car to act crazy...

on a side note. be very carefull changing fuels over. i make my own e85 from barrels of e98 so i baught a tester.. veeeery sketchy. drain your tank from the drain port on the actual tank and jack the car up on its side. get every last bit out. even still you wont have it all. i thought i got everything out so i put my tested e85 in actually tested at e87 and after it mixed with the remaining fuel in the tank it was e76. so now i mix my gas to e76. from past experiance i just used the return line to empty the tank got it all out till it was faoming. put e85 in. after it mixed with the remaining gas in the tank it was e58. now once u tune on that and top it off with fresh e85 kaboom..

Swapped out filter, drained tank, got a resistor box instead of inline, haven't done much since class started.

No. I had an str which had a fuel gauge port but wanted it done and couldn't justify spending another 200 for AN fittings
