You didn't mess up, its just that you need some general knowledge when playing with ignition timing. At this point you probably would be better off taking it to a shop to have the ignition timing properly set using a TIMING LIGHT which is required for this procedure.I hope you did not get confused and thought that they recommended adjusting the ignition timing as to replacing the timing belt. Not trying to call you stupid or anything.
The only people that should complain about if I use punctuation or not are the people that actually help not some dumbass people that just want to start **** over a forum. Another thing I don't care if I get a bunch of haters so

I guess you don't get the fact that if people can understand what you are asking, you will get more help. It may be more than punctuation, but it it the basic idea, make your posts readable, and more people can and will help.
Personally, I can't tell what has and has not been done, from what you have said.
Have you replaced the timing belt?
Have you replaced the water pump, oil pump, etc?
Have you changed the spark plugs?
Obviously you have not properly checked the ignition timing.
What ecu are you running?
Do you have any Check Engine lights?
These would be the most basic things that we need to start really helping you. A few very knowledgeable people have already piped up in the thread, and maybe if you were willing to work with us, we could help you to get the car running right. Or maybe you don't want help from guys who know these engines inside out, as opposed to just swapping them and trying to make them run.
Not trying to be a dick here, just letting you know what can help us, to help you.

Oh, and if you have the time, search around and download the "helms" manual for the car, also known as the factory service manual. It has detailed instructions for alot of the things that we may ask about.

Shouldn't need to be calibrated, but is it adjustable? Some have settings and can be moved, some just turn on and off. Let us know which type you have, and we can give you info to go from there.

Can you confirm your base timing is at 16BTDC and your fuel pressure 38-42 psi? I Have A H23avtec blue top i just did a engine swap on my 92 prelude this year. .
when its at 16 you mean the middle line in between the other 2 right? if so when I do is set to retard pretty much all the way. also I have to go off flywheel timing cover has no mark

u need to get a timing light (gun) to set ur timing. when setting your timing u gonna need to loosen the three 12mm bolts that hold ur distributor so u can adjust ur timing with a proper timing light.
