Default Somewhat typical coilover question

My budget is 550 maximum. Not one dollar more.

I am looking for some coilovers to lower my civic stupidly low. I would like to be able to lay frame for ***** and giggles.

Ideally i would like a koni gc set up with 500/450 rates but that is out lf y range.

I am interested in these coilovers: yonaka, ff type 1.

I already know that the yonakas have very high spring rates, which is good. But how is the durability? Are the struts underdampened?

What are the spring rates on ff type 1? Can the strut keep up? Will they last?

Please do not tell me to save up. Thank you for any helpful replies

Laying frame is NOT possible.

At $550 you really don't have many choices. find the cheapest coilover possible.

Stop trying to cut corners and save more money. While you're at it, read the stickies. There's a HUGE post in there all about everything you need to know for upgrading suspension.

Also, no way in hell you're laying frame on $550. Laying frame involves chopped strut towers, extended top hats, and other fun stuff that will absolutely destroy your budget before you even buy the struts.

Function & Form coilovers are on sale at jhp usa for like $540 + shipping... youre not gonna get any cheaper than that for a new set of coilovers that arent total garbage.

Ive had them before and just ordered another set for my ek. Decent quality and ride pretty good for no dampening adjustment.

Op wants to get stupid low for cheap. Then acts concerned about ride and damper quality. The information is also readily available as thousands of rice burglars before him have had the same question/mindset.

Along with other OBVIOUS clues, I can see that this is trolling at it's best. You've all been had.

Just get these. They are only like $65.00 shipped. They even have cool features like a built in ruller. The color is also very cool. Type R red. Straight up JDM here. Plus you can spend the rest of your money on stickers and vinyl wrap.

Remove the springs entirely. You'll be riding on the towers before you lay frame anyway

Well obviously im not going to drive laying frame. And i have already made extended tophats for my car. Its not that big of a deal to cut shock towers and notch the frame on a 2500 dollar car.

I guess there is an alternative . I could buy koni yellows for 450. But how much are the koni specific gc sleeves? Not the springs, just the adjusters and the tube like deal

Honestly, face reality. The Koni/GC setup will run you about $800, and if you want front top hats I think it's another $100 or so, which would be a good idea if you're going to really slam it. Even still, you need to be running 600lb front rates and 400lbs rears at least in order to not bottom out the oil pan/shocks/etc on a regular basis. Anything softer will honestly probably be less comfortable.

Did you see the sticky that explains why you cannot ride slammed and have a comfortable ride?

Might be a good idea. I also second the notion that you have a $30,000+ SUV with $2000-$10,000 wheels/tires and you're going to skimp on arguably the most critical safety aspect of your car when it comes to your civic.

THAT, doesn't make sense.

You were right on one thing, and that is that this is indeed a typical coilover question. People wanting a lot for a little, and figuring out that it doesn't work.

Did you do any research? There is a stickied thread about this same thing, did you read it?

Tired of being bombarded by people trying to get something for nothing might have something to do with it. In your case you OBVIOUSLY trying to cheap out kinda pisses people off in a forum where people OBVIOUSLY take their suspensions seriously. So what if the car is only worth $2,500? If that's the case then leave it stock or go buy the cheapest Ebay setup up can find.

Tweaked your response for my own personal use.

IMO. Save your money to buy something worth buying. So your car looks good and the ride doesn't suck!

I can't believe you guys thought this dude has an Escalade with those mods. I'm almost certain he's using his sig to make fun of stretched tire/wide rim/lots of camber setups.

I'm not sure why people care what this dude does to his car....IDK if anyone should "take suspensions seriously" either.

The whole thing seems pointless, however. A quality, comfortable setup that is used to get the car "stupid low" seems counterproductive. So there's not too many good answers.

Buy X brand of shitty coilovers. Chop up what you need to chop up and get the car low. No need for an internet post. I could have grabbed a cutting wheel and some junk coilovers and had the car done in the same time it took me to write the first post.

OP doesn't care about the car...yet is asking questions on how to finesse the lowering process? Why? Why buy Konis? Buy some garbage cheap shocks. It's not like Konis or anything else will ride well anyway at that height.

Okay, let's not take suspension seriously guys.

But really. The OP originally said he was riding on no name BS back in April, was asking about Skunk2 back in May and said he was buying a set of Koni Reds back in June, then asked about Yellows from an Accord in July. OP spends most of his time in the appearance forums, local meet and for sale threads so do you REALLY think he gives a **** about his suspension?
