need knowledgeable input on 5speed swap issue
I just bought a 2001 honda civic and the previous owner did a 5 speed conversion on it. Basicallly he used an lx parts car and swapped over the lx harness, ecu and transmission over. The issue i have is that the curise control, ac and many other features like vtec are not working.
Is it possible to put back in the auto engine harness and ecu and maybe convert the ecu to manual like in other civics? So little information can be found because everyone does k swaps.
Or am i going to have to buy another 5 speed ex harness and ecu and swap it in? Thanks for the input. I have a 1990 crx with a b16 swap and a 63 trim turbo but this new car is so foreign to me.

Cruise requires a sensor on the clutch pedal to function properly. A/C shouldn't be changed. VTEC won't work without a method to control the VTEC engagement (either an EX ECU or VTEC controller is needed).
So do you think there is a way to get cruise control functioning with the lx engine harness? I'll post up some pictures later i wish i had a better understanding of the system. My car is an ex btw. Maybe ill start looking for a new ecu was hoping to just go obd1 but i guess that just isnt possible.
Just thought of this, the gauge cluster shows that the car is in park. Think that could be the issue? Any known fixes when coverting from auto to manual?

sorry for what seems like asking the same question but i just want to clarify.
What you are saying is that i will need to purchase a 5 speed engine harness and ecu? Currently it has an lx engine harness and ecu. I still have the ex ecu and harness but it is for the automatic. If you could clarify which route i need to take that would be great. Thanks.

the ex has vtec, the lx does not, you are running a none vtec ecu with the vtec motor, all this is doing is giving you a CEL and of course no vtec. maybe you can get a VAFC to control the vtec but you still may need to get a EX vtec harness
btw you could run a AT engine harness on a MT no problem, as long as you leave the car in park so you can bypass the park sensor and turn on the car

You can use the EX AT harness, you will have left over sensors hanging from what goes into the auto trans and one at the ecu, just tape them up or snip them off
You can get a EX MT ecu and be done, but you will have to go to a Honda dealership to reflash the ecu to your ignition, so you should get a VAFC to manually control the vtec seperatly with the LX ecu

Keep in mind, in order to use any other ecu, you must go to a honda dealership to reflash the ecu to your key due to ignition security, prices from 100 to 250 from what i have read, which is why i suggest you get the VAFC to use the lx ecu and control the vtec with the VAFC, plus its a cool little gadget
