n00b alarm questions
Does the valet button make your alarm useless if a thief finds it? Reason I ask is I think the avital 5303L has the button built into the antenna. It seems like everyone is worried about stealth installs and taking care of every vulnerability but I didnt see anything about the valet button?
Can I wire in a backup battery w/charging off the brain without having to buy 520T battery system? It would suck to have to buy 520T just to replace the battery with a better one. Anyway to just avoid the 520T system altogether and use a different battery or just buy the wires from the 520T without battery?
And if I want to install myself (dont have $ to just throwaway) am I screwed if I have a defective unit? What do some of you other diy guys do? Plug it in and hope for the best?

Thanks guys look forward to DIY my first alarm system (should be fun lol)

valet button - the key/ignition has to be in the "ON" position (along with pressing the button) in order to silence the siren. The siren will still go off if you don't disarm the alarm.
Don't be a cheapass and just buy a DEI 520T. They're not like $500 or anything.

So if a thief breaks in and has a worn key couldnt he use that while pressing the valet button to disarm?
Another question I had is how do the window modules work? What I mean is how do they know if the windows are down and when to stop applying power to the window motors? I know if the window is up and I hit the up button the motor is actually trying to go up and drawing power.
That's why the valet button is usually well hidden, not in plain view.
Are you referring to window rollup/roll down via remote? For that feature, you will need to wiring in relays and window control modules. No offense, but that may be too much for you to do by yourself. Let someone knowlegdeable install it.

That makes sense thanks for the info.
