steering wheel shakes when braking + tires sound LOUD
Hi everyone, 1st-time poster, any help would be greatly appreciated.
2005 Honda CRV. As of late, I have noticed that when coming to a stop my brakes feel spongey and the steering wheel shakes when I come closer to a complete stop. Also, this may be unrelated but my tires sound really loud when going at higher speeds. I have the max amount of air in my tires.
I am thinking pad &/or rotor issues but any responses would be great.

when brakes feel spongy you have air in your brake hose line. bleed it and you may need to replace brake fluid.
you may need new rotors too if steering shakes as you brake. or remove a thin layer out (i forgot the process of that).

With the engine on and the car stopped if you pump your brakes does the pedal improve or does it stay the same?
How much is 'max amount' and do you check/fill them when the tires are cold or hot?
If the tire noise, steering wheel shake, and spongey pedal all started to occur at around the same time period, I would have your wheel bearings checked.
You said you have the "MAX" psi in the tires,,, is this meaning 35psi or 60 max that is written on the sidewall. Rub your tires with your palm, does the tread feel smooth or rough like fish gills, If rough they may be "cupped" causing your road noise. As for the brake vibration, a simple rotor resurface is probably the fix if the pads have enough life to be reused. This is where they machine a thin layer of surface off your brake disc to get rid of hot spots and grooves that will cause vibration when braking. Hope this helps..
also, depending on mileage your compliance bushings could be torn as this will cause front end slack feeling similar to loose tie rod ends. I see that alot on the crv's when they get around 150k. Its the bushing that the control arm mounts to the chassis with, Its meant to flex with suspension movement and will eventually tear due to age and normal wear.
