Default I think its time for new synchros (please read)

Well, I think my 2nd gear synchro may be going. Almost every time I shift into second, there is alot more resistance - note this is on upshifts. Its always been a little rough but now its much more noticable. My car started to act funny a few weeks back when it began making a "nails on chalkboard" sound when starting out in 1st. It was like a long deep squeal. Usually happens when car is not yet warm. And yesterday, I noticed that the 2nd gear is much rougher. I don't hear it grind in the tranny, but I feel it in the stick. But it doesn't happen all the time, just most. Has anyone else experienced this? If those are my synchros going, how expensive is it and is it something I car replace myself if I had the right tools?

well the squeel when your car isnt warm yet is your belts they are slipping.. they slip the most when they are cold and havenet expanded, one of the most common symptoms for bad syncros is a grind when shifting... the majority that i see are from 2nd to 3rd

The squeal only happens when I'm clutching out, never for more than a second at a time. But it doesn't only happen when its cold, just mostly. Sometimes it still happens after driving on the highway for 1/2 hour. This makes me think its a problem with the clutch. As for synchros, how bad of a problem are they?

I've got 2nd to 3rd crunchiness as well. Don't know whether it would be worth it to get the tranny rebuilt or just spring for a H22A (plus the H22A tranny).

The crunch isn't as bad if I shift under about 3.5k rpms (but what fun is that?). I usually rev match and double clutch on my way down so I don't notice any crunching from 4th to 3rd.

strange, my 2nd to 3rd is fine, 4th th 3rd is fine too, rev match or not. Why the hell is it the 2nd gear? I was expecting 5th to go first.

mine is bad from 2-3 and from 4-5 but any other time and it's fine. Of course those 8500 RPM shifts at the track didn't really help it any...

Are there any people here who switched their synchros? I know there is a few but I forgot their names. If any of you read this, please give some input.

well i drove with some bad synchros for a long time in my old tranny (because i was building an entire new setup at the time) and all i can say is it gradualy gets worse.. and the belt thing i mentioned earlier can happen when driving but only when you put torque on the engine another thing that can cause a squeal and a vibration is a diferantial but i my self have never had this problem in a honda only an old datsun.. the symptoms you describe would make me check out the differential for sure, hell might as well take the time to do an upgrade and get a limited slip diff.

I would do thatbut its a type Sh, so that wouldn't be the best choice for me. As for beefing up the tranny, what did you do?
