Default Dyno Results for J's Racing Intake

OK. Now that I know you are interested in seeing the results and everyone else is lagging on them, so this is what I am going to do. A fellow H-T member is willing to let me borrow the intake for the dyno runs at DynoSpot in San Jose. I am willing to let my car be the guinea pig, but I do not have enough money to test the AEM, stock airbox, and J's. The dyno is 185 per hour and I will most likely need about two to three hours, so if anyone can help me out with like 5 bucks or something than maybe we can get this thing done. So if you are interested in the results, please PM me so that we can work this out. I am very curious about the results and I assume most of you are waiting for them anyway. Anything will help.

I may be able to help your situation by buying your "Pair of genuine Top Fuel Sideskirts (Brand New) never painted or installed".

hypa@youareslow.com with some pics and price if possible.
Thanks.

Why not go to Import Builders?

Remember that CAIs are probably the worst thing to test on a chassis dyno. There's no air flow to mimic the aerodynamics of you runing the car down the road at speed.

IB is in Socal. DS racing is in Norcal.

Dynos eliminate the whole aerodynamics involved with the car and more importantly, the intake. I'm interested to see the results, but the aftermath is going to be scary. I just wish everyone would understand that there's just really no point to dyno intakes unless someone has a way to *really* simulate real-world air flow.

185 per hour?! What kind of dyno is that? does it change your oil for you and adjust your valves?!

Let's dyno in the wind tunnel.....!

Timed acceleration runs from 50-70mph are a good start and they don't cost anything, except maybe a ticket .

I second that!! My college roomate worked at the aeronautical engineering wind tunnel. I always wanted to ask him if we could turn it into a dyno. I don't think the university would have liked that very much.

Looks like he missunderstood the pricing...it's $85 per hour just for the dyno, $125 with the Wideband O2, and $185 if they tune your car.

That, too. That's the only way I could think of measuring power differences with intakes. As long as you were pretty darn accurate. That would be good fun, doing 50-70mph pulls over and over again to get some good readings. There'd be some wierd looks on the highway....

okay, so since the dyno does not seem like such a good idea, I think I will borrow the intake and do some acceleration runs. If anyone has any info on how to get accurate measurements, then please let me know. I might just do pulls from 3000 and up in every gear and compare the times with stock airbox and aem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best of all, these tests are free.

I think it would be enough to do say 3 runs from 3000rpm - redline in 3rd or 4th gear for each intake.

If you're going to run some accel test, you may as well run a full gammut of tests. 5-60mph, 50-70, 3k to 5k, 5k to redline in 1st through 3rd gear (4th and 5th if you can!!). 5-100mph, all kinds of tests. I just made some of those up, but if you think about it I'm sure you can come up with some good tests. I suppose that would be hard to do. I'm not even sure how you'd do it all, since the guages aren't 100% accurate, it will all be estimates and more than likely the timed results would be inaccurate, too. I'm sure the trends in the data would give away much sought-after info.

Ahh. Too bad I don't think I have access to the wind tunnel. I'm in aeronautical engineering and we have a wind tunnel on campus.

I don't think I could get it dyno'd in it (duh, we dont have one of those), but I would probably be able to set up a thermometer to see what the air temps are like under driving conditions.

Maybe I'll do that for grad work?

Which reminds me, this is going to be like the 4th? thread on the same thing about the j's...

I've still got my old AEM as well, but I don't have a filter for it.

Thats why I have a datalogger
When reading all data off the ecu it makes for a better comparison

True, true!

I wouldn't know since I have no hondata... Still thinking simple and inside the box!

How about a AP22 http://www.race-technology.com/WebPa...troduction.htm

It uses accelerometers but if used as a comparison tool it should be OK, it takes 0-60 and 0-100mph tests but these can be split into 30-50, 50-70 (or any slice in the acceleration), it can also download the data to a PC for analysis.

Looks like another good alternative for intake comparisons to me!

What's bright blue? The J's intake? It's CF color, because it's CF.

The HOSE is bright blue...
