Default 2002 Honda CRV Leaking Break Fluid

Had brought my Honda CRV in for 2 recalls. lights and air bag.
3 days later my break light went on. my regular mechanic topped off the fluid and light went off. Noticed break fluid leaking from ABS. Kept filling up the fluid every week, but, new had to get it fixed. Brought to Honda. $108 just to diagnose but will go towards repairs. So get a call yesterday they have to replace entire ABS unit. Picked it up today $2,150! Only has 69,996 miles on it. I am the original owner. Anyone else have to have their entire ABS Modular replace?
( I called my regular mechanic to get a quote from him. It was $200 less but would lose my $108 with Honda so I kept it with Honda. He also said they should never need replacement)

Default Re: 2002 Honda CRV Leaking Break Fluid. Back at Honda!

Now a loud squealing sound coming from car when gas pedal is pushed. High pitched chirping. Started after I brought Honda home after $2150 fix on the ABS. Honda told me the mechanic power washed under the hood because of break fluid and once it dries the belts will not make noise. Still was making noise so now, back at Honda. Honda called me and said "I need a new serpentine belt, because it is saturated in brake fluid" I told them it never made that noise before. They said would be $161. I told them I will call my mechanic that he would charge less than that. Then heard the Honda guy talk to the girl and said will only charge for the part $61. I told them to do it. I think the idiot did something wrong in the first place. What do you think? Now what are they going to do to my car for me to bring it back???

yikes $2150 seems like a whole lot of money, but maybe some ex dealership workers here can enlighten us to how much something like that runs.

Why would the mechanic power wash under the hood? POWER WASH? Out of the goodness of their heart they felt like cleaning your car? Maybe they were trying to get rid of all the brake fluid residue from the leaking abs unit is my only idea. Sort of makes sense.

Not all dealerships are bad, the one locally here is pretty honest, but I've been to some pretty bad ones as well, you're mileage is pretty low to have problems like that, even with the belt. The belt I goes around for $40-$50 so dealership hike price sounds about right.

Its too late now since once done its done.

Sadly each car is different, and I don't know your driving conditions, and or how well you took care of it. But it seems pretty low mileage to have problems with your abs unit.

I wish I could give some more input, have you tried searching crvownersclub.com you might have some luck there too.

I don't know how bad the leak was but I suppose its plausible that it could have gone all over your engine bay and wrecked havoc on other parts. I hope it comes out okay. Have any pics we can take a look at?
