Hey guys, used the search feature and found minimal results on this so I'm making a thread. Basics to know, I have an 03 RSX Type-S.

I noticed the other day when I was driving home from work that when I would get up to speed then coast while still in gear, I would hear a sort of "rrrrrrrrrr" noise. Didn't sound like harsh grinding but had a similar tone to grinding.

Anyways, today I took my car out and noticed I heard a popping sound in the left front when I was slowing down, it mainly happens from 15-5mph. When I stopped I looked at my left front and noticed a brown liquid on the inside of the rim that sort of looked like mud, I touched it and sniffed it and it smelled like oil. It also looked like it had dripped while I was stopped because there was a lot "splattered" around but a small spot was an even "drip" pattern. From the sources I looked at it seems to be a bad wheel bearing or a bad shock? I have aftermarket Tein shocks if that helps at all. If you need a pic I'm willing to provide one for you all.

brake fluid?

 

When I pumped the brakes at the stop light the pedal didn't go soft or go to the floor at all. I thought it might be the brakes as well because it happened mainly when I was braking but this made me think otherwise

Have you gotten under there and checked for leaks of any kind? Any leak should be fairly obvious.

 

It's unlikely, but check the CV joints and wheel bearings...

 

A popping sound coming from your shock, and fluid on your wheel.

If it were me I would think a blown shock. But like others said, it could be a leak somewhere else. Put it on a lift and check it out.

I jacked up the left front today and turned the rim with the car in neutral. I heard a slight popping noise when I would spin the rim, it sounded closer to the rim than the transmission. I yanked on it left and right and up and down and it has no play in any direction. Also, when I put the car back down, it didn't "squeeze" any oil out like you would assume would happen with a shock...

 

is your cv boot ripped

 

Didn't look like it when I checked. I live in south florida though so this tropical storm is coming through and i can't really check anything out. I'll take the wheel off and get a closer look when everything settles down over here.
