Starting Problem 1995 Civic
What's up guys.
I've been having a problem starting my car. I have a 1995 Honda Civic Dx with a D15b7 mated to an Auto Tranny.
As it goes, I've been working on my car for 10 days straight to swap the block since the my last block was fried. I dropped the motor back in and hooked up everything correctly. I can guarantee I did because I put tape around everything that was disconnected to make sure it would be put back in the proper location.
Ground Cables, Power cables all put back. I Put in the battery this morning, and went to start the car but nothing. When I put the key in, all the lights turn on, stereo works and after two seconds, the Engine light turns off as it should, but once I turn the key, I can only hear one click under the dash around the fuses. I have removed the starter and tested it, and it works, checked the fuses and they all seem to be good, and the yellow top Optima was fully charged. I have been reading other threads on similar problems but most of them are stick shift and the problem is a little rubber grommet that engages the neutral saftey switch. Some of the other threads have only been left unanswered.
I have been working on it carefully yet profusely and I have to get it running soon because August 24th I leave to my University.
Any help and suggesstions will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hey.
You said you swapped it from manual to auto or did I misunderstand what you said? If so, did you short the clutch lock switch? If it's still open, then you won't be able to start the car. Manual tran. cars requires to start by press and holding the clutch all the way in so that the switch is short. When the clutch is released , the switch is open. When you start a manual car without clutch pressed, you will only hear a click and nothing will happen. Which is exactly your problem.
Look for that switch or the cable and short them. It will work.

Thanks for the reply man.
And the car is factory automatic. =/
I really have no idea where else to look, Do you know if there is relay, pigtail wires or anything else similar to a manual tranny under the dash that leads to the starter? I've tried searching but nothing comes up.

i Think this problem is close to what used to happen to me. If you engine turns but wont fire to start up then it could be the ingition coil inside the ditributor. or it could be the whole distributor gone bad it self.
That has happened before to me before as well. But the motor does not turn over at all. There is just a "cliiick" under the dash and thats it. I know the fuel pump is working because you can smell the fuel.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Update. I had my mom sit in the car and turn the ignition switch while i was in the bay trying to find a noise. and on top of the intake manifold towards the back there is a little, solenoid?, that i can feel a slight vibration with the click under the dashboard. that little solenoid was warm after turning the key. Could this be the problem? It has a mushroom cap on top, it is attached to the intake manifold with one screw, it has a vaccum hose that runs to the carbon canister, and another that runs into the intake manifold, and a pigtail.

That's the EVAP purge valve. This shouldn't cause your engine to not turn at all. Did you try testing voltage across starter when you turn the key on to start? See if there's voltage when you turn the key all the way. That's the only way.
For car to start, starter is directly connected to battery with the key switch in the middle. If your starter doesn't even turn when you turn the key, then it's the problem with the starter. It's not getting the voltage from battery. That's the only solution. Nothing to do with vacuum or anything. So, check the voltage/continuity at the starter motor.
If your starter turns the motor and it doesn't starts or starts but die right after, then it's the electrical, fuel and air system.
So don't jump all the way to the other stuffs. Start from the beginning. Also, another reason this could happen is when your battery clips are lose. Did you try taking them out, cleaning them and putting them back on tightly? Also try to jump your car.
