Default B18C tranny problem... never seen this before...

Hey guys have a buddy that just bought a civic with a 96 spec B18C swap in it... Runs and drives fine except for a very odd problem I've never seen or heard of before. So the previous owner bought the swap from that place in Canada called osaka or what ever its called that tons of people have problems with... previous owner tried to get them to fix it but was shut down every time.

So the easiest way to explain what it's doing is this.

1st and 2nd there is absolutely nothing. Just free revs.

1st is actually where 3rd is supposed to be
2nd is actually where 4th is supposed to be
3rd is actually where 5th is supposed to be
4th is actually where reverse is supposed to be

5th and reverse obviously can not be reached.

Any help on what is wrong will be appreciated I have an idea what is wrong but I rather not put that in your head.

Have you physically inspected the shift linkages and shifter and compared them to 100% working counterparts?

I had one come in that was supposed to be doing something similar. Internal shift mechanism was bent or otherwise screwed up in some way. I couldn't see anything wrong with it, even when I compared it to a known good one, but when I swapped it for the good one it shifted and when I put the bad one in another trans it wouldn't shift, even on the bench.
