Default 93 Del Sol Si Trans Will Not Go In Gear

I have been driving my 93 Del Sol Si back and forth to work everyday, 140 mile round trip and it has been fine. Yesterday, I cleaned the car up and backed it into the garage. Today I went out to take it the store and the car started fine, but would not go in gear. Turn the car off and it goes into every gear, you can try to start the car with it in gear and it wants to go right then. Everything hydraulic is working correctly, clutch fork is moving like it should. I am guessing a spring or something has come dislodged in the clutch. It does have 194000 miles on it. I am guessing it is time for a new clutch, how much time should I set aside to do the clutch swap, and is this doable on jack stands in my garage?

Thanks for any help.
Eddie

Its pretty easy and yes can be done on jack stands. I have done a few like that, it takes me a few days (if I have everything already bought and sitting at my house) but can be done quicker if you have the time. Just dont forget to get all the bolts fotr the trans housing. I can deff do things alot fast on a lift with a trans jack but this way is possible just alittle more work. Just make sure tp get a good clutch, you can get a comp clutch from go autowerks or exedy clutch for cheap just shop around.

hello,

based on your description i wound agree with your assesment that you need a new clutch.

you will want to replace:

the clutch disk
pressure plate
throw out bearing
pilot bearing
at the same time
you will also want to remove the flywhel to inspect, and would not be a bad idea with 194k to replace the rear main seal.

reuse the flywheel but scuff up the surface with medium sand paper to remove glazed surface.
12pt 17mm socket for flywheel
and 12pt 10mm socket for clutch

i do this job in and out in around 3 hour or less with a lift working a a medium pace.

figure a full day if your in the drive way wth jack stands and floor jack.

would be nice for you to get a buddy to help and two floor jacks. or one of those motor cycle jacks.

one jack for the tranny to come out te botom and one to hold, lower, and rase the motor
as the tranny uses 3 of 5 mounts. post back if you need any help.

also i recomend honda mtf 3 quarts green lable.

good luck

I don't agree. Check your clutch slave cylinder first.

Marc, since I have had the car, about 40000 miles, I have replaced the master and slave and watched the slave when I was looking to see all in the system were working. I was thinking the same thing. What's crazy, is it worked perfect yesterday when I washed the car.

Thanks for the answers so far. I guess my son and I will push the car to the basement and get after it. Surely it will be a little easier than a Camaro 6 speed that we changed the clutch in a few years ago. That dude was heavy!! I was sore on the back of my head from laying on the concrete. LOL!
