anyhow some peeps are intirested in the black seats w/ red stiching but recaro wont do it unless 10 seats are ordered. i figured this is something unique and different and some of the type r guys would be intirested in something like that.

According to the owners last post in that above link, we need one more person to place an order for the red stitched SRDs for him to order them like that from Recaro. JDMs are out of my budget, so this is the next best thing for adjustable Recaros.

Sorry no trades. I've sold my R, hence the sale of the seat too. Doesn't really go with the blue interior on the 'Rex. If you are in to R/C and have an Airtronics M8 radio though....

It was done by Conversion Techniques in Oakland, who is the Recaro distributor in the area. I'm not sure where they got it from, but I do know the sucker cost me $1300 and took about six months to get done. They had a bitch of a time getting the material for some reason, and it cost something like $80 a yard. The guy they had recover it used to work for Recaro though, so it came out very nice. Then they had to ship it back to Recaro to get the logo re-done.

how comfortable are these seats over stock? Are they reclineable?

 

Well, everything is subjective, and you should really sit in any seat you intend to buy to see if it meets your own preferences. Just about any of the after-market seats out there are going to be better than the crappy stock slabs, but IMHO the SRD is much better than the Sparco and the Momo's that would be comparable.

Wow, that is one hell of a nice custom work on that SRD.

 

Why'd you go through all the trouble for the conversion? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just get a real black JDM Recaro?

 

At the time (1998), the JDM Recaro's were starting at $1750 a piece. So, I still came out ahead. Of course now they're much more readily available, and you can usaully pick up two for the price that the one used to sell for. I'm taking a pretty good hit on what I paid, but I can't bring myself to have it re-covered again to match the WRX. I'd rather see it go to someone else who will appreciate the work that went into it.
