Default 94 Civic DX - Vtec-e swap?

My wife has a '94 Civic DX that the previous owner had a shop swap a Vtec-e motor and trans. The harness looks good, no cuts, splices, or empty pig tails. And it has a P28 computer. It's got a 4 wire 02. Is it OBD1? How can I tell.

So the head gasket needs to be replaced. But what I need to know is what gasket to use. I know I should go OEM, but I'm gonna go Autozone. But you know how the guy behind the counter is! I even have problems with the dealer. (I won't even go into when I did the belt and pump!)

I've seen D15Z1 works and D16Y7 or what ever. But what I need to know is what car did this come out of? I think Del Sol's had them. It'll be easier to start with that.

The block says "D15B 7501784"

Thanks.

If it's an OBD1 Vtec-e engine then it's identical to a D15Z1. If you want some positive ID on the engine post a few pictures of it and I can tell you for sure what it is.

D15z1 gasket should work, before you install it compare the new to the old.

That's a D15Z1 ('92 - '95 VX) equivalent engine with a D15B7 exhaust manifold and either a D15B7 or D16Z6 intake manifold (leaning heavily towards D15B7)

Ok, cool. So I'm looking for a head gasket from a '92-'95 Civic VX. Thanks.

Oh btw, I'm sure that the stock motor was the B7 so the shop probably just replaced the long block. Is this combo ok? I mean, it's been good so far, but is there anything wrong that can be changed to makre it run better? She doesn't want power as much as a good running motor that gets good gas miliage.

Oh, yeah, one last thing, the P28 ecu, do I need to have, or should I have it tuned? Like i said, gas miliage is the #1 priority, so if it's good enough, then we'll leave it alone.

Thanks.
