i was looking for what type of transmission fluid to put in my car and it came to a like on here that people said they used 10w-30 motor oil in there trans. this doesnt sound right to me but im curious if it works since i have lots of oil since my dad buys it in cases. so it would save me from making a trip to get tranny fluid. so just looking for opinions on that. thanks

 

Yes you can use that. That's what Honda suggests using, or there manual transmission fluid. 10w-30 worked fine in my ef

 

The manual recommends motor oil. I use castrol GTX. 10w30 or 10w40 if you live in a hot climate.

 

Like they said, just to throw in my two cents while i wait for my tall glass of cooled genuine draft of Bud Light, I use GM synchro mesh friction......(I believe it's called). You can only get it from a GM dealership but it's the ****. Probably unnecessary......yes, a little expensive.......yes. I think it's Castrol that makes a very similar product as well.

I ran motor oil for a few days until I got some

Honda mtf.....if I were u id run that it took away my grind in 3rD

 

10w30 conventional

 

I use 1qt Synchromesh/1qt Honda MTF. Pretty much all that **** works.

I found that combo to "feel" best for my transmission. Yours might like conventional oil best.

 

Honda MTF, it has better wear protection and I think they still use zink in the mtf too

 

well alright then. just curious. what about 5w30 instead of 10w30? will they both work?

 

I used 10w30 in my trans. too.

 

I used Delo 15-45 in my trans, never ran into any problems with it.

10W30 is fine and what was originally spec'd.
I switched to Honda MTF and thought it made enough of an improvement to warrant the extra cost.

 

alright well i just put in a trans that hasnt been used in 3 to 5 years so i guess i will run oil for a couple hundred miles then switch over to mtf fluid.
