friend got into an accident need some advice.
My friend bumped into an prelude driver and made a small hole in the back bumper. The dude now wants to replaced the bumper and have it repainted. He says its about 300 for the bumper and 600 for the repainting and labor. Anyone have any advice? I feel 900 dollars is too much for a bumper and he is very adamant about going to his mechanic.

i would have the guy get a written estimate from HIS body shop, and then you get an estimate from one you choose. then compromise from there. Your friend does owe the driver of the other car what it takes to restore the bumper to the condition it was before he damaged it though.
Yeah I always go by the three estimates and settle rule, that what an insurance company will do as well many times.
That said, 900 bucks to fully repair that sounds right, it has great looking metallic white paint, and looks to be in excellent condition from what that single pic shows.

You can get a salvage OEM one w/no damage for as low as $100 here: http://www.car-part.com/ Look under "rear bumper assembly". How can he argue with an OEM part?
And, you should be able to find a pro that will paint to match for around $300.
Or... you could find someone with a plastic welder (yes, there is such a thing) who knows how to use it but, they'll still charge $50-100. After that you still have to sand and paint it to match.
On a side note: I've always just put a sticker over holes like that. lol

I just got my lude hit in the front. Bumper 150$ radiator 77$ bumper 80$ grille 60$ headlights $210 for both oem... With paint matched and painted and labor it's costing me 1040$ to fix! So that guy just wants money from you. And this is at a professional body shop for the estimate. I ordered my parts myself.
Just looked at the pic... And that whole is tiny. Honestly for 200$ it can be fixed! I made a dent about the size of a big apple in a metal bumper. Got it fixed and painted for 80$ but the guy gave me an amazing deal.. Pretty much free labor and paint.

yeah 900 sounds about right. you see, these body shops know that the insurance company is going to pay for it and therefore they upsell everything and in the estimate add every clip, bolt, screw etc from the dealer that "supposedly" takes to the job right?
I worked at the dealer and I saw many companies order "all the parts necessary" to do the job, get paid from the insurance then they would return everything.
Like snobordboi suggested, get 3 estimates and settle.

I forgot to add the body shop that's doing my car is charging 350 to paint and match hood and bumper.... Also recently about two months ago my other car needed a new front bumper.. Match and paint $150
Please don't even think about paying 900$ that is outrages price!

Everyone who has posted that it should only cost $400 or less needs to consider their surroundings.
If the person was quoted that from a shop, then that is what you need to pay.
What everyone is not considering is that labor rates and part rates are different from state to state, and county to county.
Some places can get a fairly good repair job for $200, and then in other locations, the same job is $900.
Bottom line, if you hit someone, let your insurance deal with it, and if you dont have insurance shame on you first, and the second its your loss and they can sue for whatever they want.
Rear end collisions are by default the fault of the person who hit the one in front of him/her.

the thing is the paint job on his car is some special color so repainting cost alot apparently. Anyways my friend cut it down to 800 and shes going to stick with that. Guess nothing we could really do.
