i looked but saw nothing about this, so sorry if i missed a post about the same thing. So, A few months ago i noticed that i was burning oil really bad, like oil light came on after 1k miles, btw the car has 110k on it. I was seriously almost out of oil. I told my mechanic the problem, so he put in heavier oil with an extra oil treatment to stop the burning. Turns out after about 900 miles i'm burning through the thicker treated oil.

Is there any way to fix this? Or is this car just no good?

 

Do a compression and leak down test. Most likely you'll need a rebuild or new engine

 

How do you know whether you are burning or leaking oil, or both?

 

from past experience it may be bad valve seals and or blown rings

 

When i went to my mechanic with the problem he said that he could see blue smoke from the tail pipe. But he did say there was some slight leaking but he said mainly it was burning. This mechanic has been a family friend for a while so i'm pretty sure he is telling the truth. Also, no puddles in my driveway.

 

Do a compression and leak down test. To burn that much in that short a period you should be billowing smoke as you are driving.
