looking to swap b18c in my 95EG
Now i'll be the first to admit when it comes to swaps, mods, etc, im pretty much on the newb side of things. I just bought my EG (1995 civic DX) sometime in april/may and since i've been researching for what i want to do with my car. I've been doing so even before purchasing my car cuz my brother is a real honda fanatic and he pretty much got me into honda's too, but researching doesnt make u a pro when it comes to something like this. Anyway, i kinda have ideas for my EG in mind as far as setup and stuff and one of the biggest things i want is to swap in a b18c type r engine. But to be honest, i'm not sure where to start and is the engine swap even possible in my budget (which at the moment is $1600-$2000). I've search some threads but the info i've gathered seems to vary. So figured i'd make a post, see if i can get some help that fits my situation :D
just touched bases with a honda buddy of mine.... seems i would need
Motor-Distributor, all manifolds, block, head
Mounts- trans mount, motor mount, and rear bracket
Trans- Transmission, start, axles(driver, passenger, Half shaft)
Harness- same harness can be reused, VTEC will need wiring tho
ECU
sadly an ITR swap doesnt seem to fit a $2000 so i guess i'll be saving up to double...

My suggestion would be to wait until you can find a wrecked car with a cool swap in it. I know its a very rare thing but I was able to find my jdm itr swapped integra for 1000 and i still got a couple hundred out of it when I scrapped the shell. With your budget you could totally afford to do a swap if you can find the right deal on a whole car with a motor in it. good luck and be patient.
thanks for the reply... and yea, im in no real rush... i figure a swap is a big deal so i want to do it right and at the same time get the best deal i can so patience doesnt hurt at all... guess i'll get my wheels and coilovers for the time being and meanwhile i'll do more research and asking around
A full itr swap at that price will be hard to find... You will be looking more at 3000 for a good swap... Always check craigslist I have found good deals but you must be careful
you will probably have better luck doing a GSR swap with that price range. or maybe b20vtec. i just put a gsr in my hatch and total cost was about 2000. but...... it took me a while to find a full swap that was clean and worth buying.. i found mine on craigslist (which isnt always the best idea) but got the full swap, engine trans axles shift linkage intake and exhaust manifolds, for 1500. extra expenses were chip for the ecu rear motor mount bracket, new innovative mounts, new axles and seals(to be safe), new stage 3 clutch and lighter flywheel (easy to install while the motor is out so why not) and i had to buy a header that was longer than my stock GSR header to reach the factory civic hatch exhaust. all in all it costed about 2000. things also to take into consideration, my eg hatch is an SI so it came wired for VTEC so i didnt have to deal with that, it came with a P28 ECU so all i had to do was chip it, and i did all the labor myself so i didnt have to pay anyone. so realistically a type r is a little ways away from a $2000 budget.
just some food for thought
good luck with the build, and beware of craigslist!! haha (always write a Bill of sale)

I recently stumbled on a "junkyard" GS-R for $600 with %99 percent of the swap there.
I picked up a Blox IM with 68mm TB, CTR cams, ITR rods and pistons for around $700.
I sold the seats and cluster and still have a few miscellaneous things to sell that should bring my cost down to around $1000 total.
A fresh rebuild with all the parts is going to run me around $1000 at the machine shop [ARP bolts, oil and water pumps, timing set, etc...]
The hatch itself cost me $800, with a running D15Z1, I'm selling that full swap for $300.
I picked up a P28 s300 for $400 on a sweat deal.
I'll still need to find some ~450cc injectors and get tuned on e85.
All said and done, I'll be into this hatch for $3500-4000. Not a bad price point for an entry level drag/auto-x car.
Depending on how much of a DD you want your car to be, you could probably sell more stuff out of your car. There are always people looking for OEM parts, either to fix their car, or put a riced out pile back to stock.
Mine is actually going to be my GFs race car, she'll want to have all the comforts she can, so I can't sell the interior or anything like that.
So what I'm saying is, if you're creative in your wheeling and dealing you might be able to get a solid build done for less than you think.
You should be able to get a decent LS/V done much cheaper than this PMR I'm putting together for my GF.
