Default 01 Accord starting woes

Had a new battery installed a few weeks ago. Today, got in car, inserted and turned key, nothing but all idiot lights came on. Tried again, same thing. Stepped on brake pedal and shifter would not release. Tried again, shifter released, moved to nuetral and car started. I'm thinking ignition switch. Could it be anything else?

That sounds like the neutral safety reverse switch. It just makes sure the car is in park or neutral for a safe start. Its probably malfunctioning.

Does the idiot lights go out too when you had the key cranked all the way?
