1992 acura integra over heated while driving down the road
Ive had the car for months now and yesterday as i was driving home from a buddies it over heated twice in about a 10 minute period. Any ideas i read online it might need a coolant flush i was topping it up because i cleaned my iacv and another one forgot the name because of a jumpy idle.
1. see if there is coolant in your radiator when cold.
2. check your coolant over flow bottle to see if the coolant is very dirty and if oil is mixed in (sign of headgasket issue)
3. Start car and allow it to warm up to operating temperature. upper radiator hose will get very hot and lower radiator hose will get hot after a little while. If it doesnt get hot (lower radiator hose) it means ur thermostat is stuck close) -- need to replace to allow coolant flow
4. if that is working good allow the engine to keep running and check if the cooling fans come on. If they dont come on its either your cooling fan motor, wiring, or the cooling fan switch which is located on your thermostat housing.
Tell me what u find and ill tell you what is wrong and further diag

unless someone jumps in here with a good diagnosis of the VERY COMMON "no fan problem",wire that bitch up to 12v(battery) with a switch to turn it on/off.
or you can do what i did and wire it to the cd player yellow battery wire(12v) and then it will come on automatically when you have the car on.
just had to do this to my car, and because of my "custom"(lol more like splice splice splice everywhere) wiring throughout the car,it made it hard to diagnose it for me...
now you got to get out your special tool called a paper clip and jump the fan switch located on the thermostat housing. So with the ignition switch in the on position disconnect the the two pin fan switch connector on the housing then jump between the two pins on the harness side and see if the fan turns on (ur just acting like the thermo switch by closing the circuit). If it turns on which it probably will then you need a fan switch. probably your problem 9 times out of 10. just dont hack up ur harness please
if you were moving and not stuck in traffic it's not the fan since you'll have airflow. if you still have the OE radiator it's suspect as scaling renders them ineffective after a period of time. if you're not loosing water that's an excellent sign. if you are pressure test the system
chances are you need a new radiator and thermostat
test the fan while you're doing it all but overheating while driving is almost never fan related. overheating while in traffic is often fan related
depends on the water used radiators often need to be replaced at the 15-20yr mark which you're at the end of with a 1992

So you removed the iacv to clean it ,replaced it and topped it off. But did you BLEED the system of the air you let in? I'm thinking the air pocket is moving through the system.
