I found this tread on how to tell the difference between the 126hp B20B & 147hp B20B... I'm gonna be picking up a B20 next weekend from an importer and I want to make sure Im getting what I want!!!! Is the factory knock sensor the only way to tell these motors apart without taking heads off???

seems like jdm b20b is same as usdm b20z
knock sensor and the engine is obd2b?

why don't people make threads "how can i make sure i'm getting a low-comp b20 so i can talk the seller down a few more hundred?"
oh, because people still try to race 147*crank-rated* hp cars.
just saying..
anyways, to help with the thread: the linked thread is pretty good. just don't get mad if you don't get the engine you want, even if it appears you have. (not that you'd actually ever know) a lot of chevy-style mix-matching went on with the b20 assembly line and short of taking the engine apart there isn't really any guarantee afaik.

wow lol
how do you know that alot of chevy style mixing went on.
somehow i dont belive that a japanese assembly line would be that fkd up to allow mixed parts. theres a reason why american cars buy japanese engines is because they are consistent and dont allow chevy style mix matching.
you can always do a compression test dont have to have the engine in the car for that
just the tranny and starter attached

Well I go tomorrow to buy the engine... This is NOT for racing!!! This is for my daily driven 97 sedan and my wife and I are tired of the gutless SOHC while running the AC!!! Plus we live around a bunch of long hills & mountains. We are just looking for more TQ & more HP never hurts either!!! Thanks for the help
