Student problems with Accord already.
Hey guys,
Just bought myself a 1996 Accord LX with 110K miles on it. Well the trans was shifting kinda hard, since its an auto, so i decided to go on and change the fluid. I took it to my super trustworthy mechanic and when he changed it, there were large metal pieces in my fluid that he even showed me that were around 1cm in diameter. The trans doesn't make any noises but again it does shift kinda hard. He said I have 6 months to a year till the trans goes bad. Im in High school and spent my savings on this car
and im super stressed and worried about it its ruining me right now..im just a big worry wart. What can i do to slow down the process? Any additives? Thanks. And I put in genuine Honda trans fluid too.

drive it while you can. go to the junkyard on the weekend and pull a low mileage tranny.
bring car and tranny to your high school auto shop and do the swap there. if you have no auto shop ask your mechanic friend if he can use his shop on the weekend

If the fluid was never changed more than likely its just the acculmlated crud on the magnetic plug.
If the transmission is shifting hard, pull the NM and NC sensors out and clean the same crud off them. They are also magnetic.
Located in the right side cover...

#15 & #16 will need to be removed and cleaned. You will have to replace #24 O-ring on both sensors as they will leak if you try to reuse them
Honda part number 91309-PX4-003 O-RING (16X2.1) (NOK) $1.88
Those two sensor monitor the two shaft speeds inside the transmission and signal the TCU when to shift. If they are covered in crud the resolution of the signal is lost and the shifting will become harsh.
