Default Tried searching but...

I need this little tidbit of information (it's probably been beat to death so much that the one thread that has the info that I need is probably not even related in my search criteria):

Why did Honda stop selling ITRs in the US in 1999 only to bring them back in 2000 and 2001?

I was under the impression that it was because the 1997 and 1998 ITRs were not selling well and once the press got a hold of a few (and others started doing super well in amateur racing), everyone saw how good of a car it was and demanded it back?
