Picked up a 01 CRV today with 85k miles for daily driving. I'm in love with this vehicle. It's so spacious and comfortable. I plan on doing most of the maintenance myself and was wondering what fluid can I use on the differential? Also what do you guys recommend for tranny fluid? It's auto btw. Will it be useless if I switch over the synthetic oil for the motor? Plan on leaving it stock since I love the way it looks right now. TIA

 

I use the regular diff fluid I got new from Honda. OEM stuff.

I use royal purple for my oil.

Its automatic...mtf doesnt work for the trans or the diff, lol.


go to honda and buy some dual pump fluid 2 for the rear diff. For the trans use honda ATF. You're still at the point that synthetic oil will assist your engine, so go for it! Not all synthetics are built the same, so use something good. In my opinion, they go in this order.

Motul
Royal Purple
Mobile 1
Everything else.

But use whatever you wish.

I've used regular ole Valvoline for years.

 

How many qts does the tranny take? It says 7 qts total but that seems like alot to me.

With any new Honda first thing i buy is a Helms manual. Anything and everything you could possibly need to know is in there. little pricey but I assure you well worth the money.

I find those things pretty useless. Most vehicles that i buy have one in it, and usually they're in like new condition because they didnt use it. Everything you need to know you can either find online or figure out just by digging in. Honda's are especially easy to work on.
