How would I do this? My car is a 96 civic. I want to bleed my brakes cause it takes a while for me to come to a stop. I have to start braking like in the middle of the block to stop at a stoplight. Also my brake drums squeak when i'm breaking, what could be causing this?

 

Get some needle noses or 8mm, a sort of vinyl tubing to fit over the nipple and catch bottle for the fluid. Get to the caliper, take the little rubber cap if there is one off the nipple place the tube over it. Then place the tube in the bottle if your doing it by yourself. Apply brakes and release pressur on the nipple by turning it then start pumping the brake at least three times all the way to the floor . When you are done hold the brake to the floor and tighten up the nip. Tadda.


And for the squeaks check for slight cracks or lack of brake lube on the metal contacts

 

pump pedal 5 times and hold, release valve, tighten valve and repeat till pedal gets firm, may take 2 or 2 times around to get it, but if its taking a while to stop why are you asking aboiut air in the system? is the peal soft or sticks?

as far as adjusting drums youll need a flat head. take of the wheel and turn the drum, there should be a slight drag if not take the drum off and theres a "gear" at the bottom this is the adjuster move it up or down (cant remember) to tighten it. if its gettin loose then your turning it the wrong way, AGAIN it should be a SLIGHT drag not a "drum should barely move"

check the drum condition for cracks or fluid from the cylinnder, also check the codition of the shoes also, check the rotors and pads up front also. on these car the fronts do MOST of the stopping

 

cause im assuming since that it takes a while to stop then that would mean theres air in the system
