Default civic hatch project car build thread

I purchased a 95 Honda civic hatchback with the intentions of restoring it. It needs a lot of love but has a lot of potential. The hood was covered in ducttape and has a huge dent in it. It needs a new hood cable, broke under the dash. it had rear 1/4 rust too but I welded in metal (1st time ever). This car originally was an auto and someone started converting it over to manual but didnt take out the wide brake pedal. It also has a big dent behind the driver door.

I'm starting this thread to keep track of everything im doing or have to do and also to help motivate me. I have other cars to maintain and also do a lot of side work for extra cash so this car might take me a while . we'll see how this plays out unless I sell it b4 I get a chance to finish it.

I've already done the 4 wheel disc swap and all new lower control arm bushings in the rear.

List of parts aquired so far:
complete running obd1 ls engine
b16 s4c transmission
linkage (needs some love) https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-6/b-series-shifter-linkage-bushing-question-3072949/
all mounts except auto to 5 speed conversion mount
clutch timing belt seals blah blah blah
head lights and marker lights
rear bumper and tailgate

List of parts still needed:
Headliner
all exterior mouldings, sides and roof
hood release cable with underdash piece
hood
manual brake bedal
and probably much more. wish me luck

I decided to not go with the auto to 5 speed conversion mount. I'm going to weld in the ears I got off a 5 speed integra last night. I also aquired the brake and gas pedal assembly, finally. Going to try to install tonight if we dont work on sam's car some more.

Nice to see progress, good luck with the rest. It's a really rough start!

Also, an alternative to uploading those pictures to the forum directly:
I recommend using www.imgur.com; here's a trick to upload your photos and instantly grab the IMG codes to use them in this forum:
(click steps to see how it should look like)
1) Drag+Drop or select the photos you're going to upload
2) Click Upload (DO NOT GROUP AS ALBUM)
3) Click "Generate Multiple Links" change setting to BBCode and there you go

I mess with hondatech while I'm at work and my internet is very limited here. Most pics on other peoples threads wont even display, they just show a little red x. Thanks for the advise but this is my only option.

I did a lot the other day finally. I cut off the bracket for the auto mount and welded in the manual bracket. Thats just primer so it doesnt rust. I forgot to bleed the brakes after I did the swap, so I have all the air out now. I also started cleaning the engine bay and have the headlights removed. I have new headlights and marker lights to install but am waiting for after the paint. I'm also not going to rebuild the motor, just all new gaskets and seals. I aquired new shifter linkage too. this thing is starting to come along. I'll keep you posted.

I forgot, I also installed my hood cable and we fixed sams speedo problem.

I have a shitty picture of the old headliner and a decent pic of the new one. I have the new one installed now but need the 2 christmas tree clips that hold it up in the middle. I'm getting them from work today and will take a pic tonight. Only parts I need still is a good hood and driver side fender. I'm going to finish some of the body stuff tonight too.

Sorry it has been so long, life is super busy. I've been messing with this thing on and off for the past few weeks. I have the motor in and running now. This pic is before I started it, its runs and drives perfect now.

I have the body stripped ready for paint. I had a "sanding party" with a bunch of my friends yesterday. Here are some before pics. Oh, and I bought a new hood for it too. I'm getting new mirrors and I got new side moldings. the roof moldings and side skirts are going to have to be sanded down and repainted.

These are after the sanding party pics. We found a couple more dents and I still need to sand the front bumper and scuff the rear bumper and tailgate.

with all the white paint off we found all the dents. I thought this car was clean , I was way wrong. Chad Rucker and his girlfriend Heather Clifton are the ones doing my body work. And they are having a great time. They did a lot of filling and sanding last night and are going to try to finish it up today while I'm at work. What good friends . Wish us luck, hopefully it will be at the paint shop next week

Oh, that's a beautiful color! I really want to give my eg the same kind of restoring (full restore) but sadly enough can't afford it yet.. Still a poor student and moving again soon. repainted my hood though lol!

Thanks, thought my english looked like crap haha.

The best way to restore one of these cars is one thing at a time. I really suggest having another car for a daily driver so you can take your time on the project car. I've been messing with mine for a while so having other cars makes it a lot easier.

Definately true, but as i said.. I'm a poor student hahaha. Don't have the money for another car. + i now live in quite a big house with a garage.. But im moving soon so won't have that space anymore. Maybe i can fix this in some time at some garage or something haha.

I have the knowledge for doing this. So i could do most of it myself.

still, can't stop loving these kind of projects

Subscribed btw!

Chad and Heather made some more progress last night. If you see red primer, that spot is done. and the fenders were painted a few times, the red thats left on them is leftover paint. and thats after 2 applications of aircraft stripper. I also started sanding the front bumper . sanding sucks, I almost want to have another sanding party. I couldnt finish sanding because I had to pull a motor out of a pos ek. Hopefully we can make some more progress on the hatch tonight
