89 ef with 95 ls motor lack of power
Hello all I'm a newbie to the site. Wanted to get some opinions on why I'm lacking power in my 89 ef. Just bought the car recently its got a 95 obd1 ls swap with a gsr tranny. It seems to lack power in low rpms as compared to my 92 ls which has almost 300,000 miles on it. It also surges at idle. It had anew distributor on it when i got it, an a (ghetto) wire tuck. Thought maybe it could be a timing issue, but just wanted to get some opinions so that when I get time i can actually try an fix all possible issues. Any help is greatly appreciated an I will listen to all advice.
also like I said the motor is from a 95 ls but the ecu is a pr4 obd0 ecu. an the intake manifold has a plate covering a hole on the motor side of the mani where a sensor would have went. any idea if that affects anything

do you have an aftermarket tachometer (rpm or rev gauge) installed? that is probably what that single wire is.
the hard starting is most likely a bad main relay, easy to repair or replace.
your belt timing could be off on one cam, causing the lack of power feeling in the low end area.
the plate covering a hole on your intake manifold could be causing a vacuum leak which would make your idle surge, more than likely though your FITV is leaking because it has backed out... assuming you have the matching obd1 intake manifold your FITV (Fast Idle Thermal Valve) will be bolted to the bottom of your Throttle Body. the pix are dead, but this thread says how to fix it. super easy to do:

when i traded for the car the boy said he had to replace the motor an he used a 95 ls in it I think he just used all the obd0 parts so he didn't have to convert it

ok so I checked all the vacuum lines it doesn't have the evap canister an the vacuum on the fpr is running straight to the manifold could that be the cause of the code 43

for pics use photo bucket or flikr or something like that.
once you post pics of your intake manifold we can tell you where to run your vacuum lines.
