Default 2001 Accord Auto Trans Reverse Issue

Hey guys. Need some help here.

I have a customers car, 2001 4 cyl auto trans. Needed a new trans put in, and a timing belt done. I finished all the worked, and the trans seems to shift pretty good. But if I back up like 30 feet in my driveway, drive back forward, then put it in reverse you hear a clunk/grind and then it goes in reverse. Is there anything at all that would cause this sound that can be fixed without dropping the trans back out and returning it?

It is a JDM trans. I got it from JDM engine depot.

Thanks!

Yes. All new fluid. Honda atf.

When driving the trans shifts like butter. I did have to exchange a few sensors from the last trans when I put it.in because.they were broken from shipping. It is possible this is causing.it, I just don't know what sensor or switch affects reverse.

There is also a semi harsh up shift into first gear when coming to a complete stop.

my 1990 honda accord has this problems. it started first with reverse disengage as im backing up and it will engage again as im still backing up. it would kick and grind when re engaging. now the reverse gave out completely all it does is grind. im picking up another auto tranny from junkyard. this would be the second auto tranny going into it.

I am almost positive that the sensors/switches I had to change from the old transmission is the culprit. I am just unsure what switches/sensors control the reverse and the 1st gear upshift. I almost feel like a sensor is reading incorrectly and two shafts are not syncing at the same speed or something to that effect.

But it does not do it everytime, and only if you go from D to reverse.

You have a FSM? It tells you exactly which switch does what, as far as shifting, from when to when etc. I can look in mine tomorrow, if you still havent fighured it out. Maybe I can copy it and let you see it. It is from a 98 Acura CL.

No I do not have a FSM. Any info regarding all of the switches and any info for diagnosing any of the things i am experiencing would be awesome!

Also, I know its a long shot, but do you think the fact that this is a JDM F23 trans, and I am using a USDM F23 ECU could have anything to do with it? Considering that the TCU is built into the ECU.

Alright thanks tim!

JDM engine depot is going to send me a JDM computer to see if it fixes it for whatever reason.

i got two honda accords one a 90 another 91. i switched tcu. sensors. solenoids. the shifter brain that controls the p r n d 3 2 1 and nothing. its not sensors. its a bad tranny. its going out. ive seen this before on a 2001 4cyl when i would disconnect the shift solenoids if would work fine. but i would connect them and it would act up. so we switched solenoids BRAND NEW ONES from honda and guess what, same thing, so we grabbed a multimeter to see if we were getting signal to the solenoids and we sure were. so it was never the solenoids it was the tranny we got a rebuild one put it on problem went away. when we opened it up half of the valve body was damaged some valves were stuck open some were half way and one was stuck close. the symptom this car had was when you would put it in reverse it would slam so hard it would kill the engine
