How to avoid more cleaning action and make uniform bead on starts and stops.

 

For cleaner stops at the end of the weld, make a small upside down tear drop. This will flush all the slag/contaminants to the very outside of the weld pool. I've never tried that technique on starts but i guess it could work the same way.
