Default f22b1 vtec in non-vtec accord question

soo, i am currently helping my friend swap an f22b1 vtec in his 96 accord and it does not have a vtec engine so the harness does not have the vtec wires. he bought a achipped vtec ecu and i told him that the vtec in the f22b1 is for better fuel econ. and not for performance so he wants me to ask for advice, should we even add the vtec wires or not? i know it is not alot of wiring but will it be better with vtec or or should he just leave it unplugged since it is not for performance. thank you guys ahead of time

gonna have to have the harness and do wiring anyway might as well get those few extra mpg's. not sure the route you would go for performance since i have a b2 in my accord and dont have the vtec element to deal with.

It's a single wire so might as well add it. If you don't, the ECU will try to run the VTEC table with the cam using the incorrect lobe and you will have either running issues or your mixtures will be askew.

The B1 will run like sh*t with VTEC not plugged in. Those with a F22B1, disconnect yours for a day, come back and tell us how it is. You'll also need to wire in the VTEC Pressure Switch too, and not just the VTEC Solenoid. I totally recommend you to wire it up so there will be no CEL, and it will run like a charm. There's nothing wrong with the chipped ECU as long as it's got a F22B1 air/fuel map on there til he gets a tuned. But what ECU is it though?

Ooh ok. I had no idea it would mess with the performance. I am not sure what ecu it is but he just bypassed the 02 sensors, 2sptep laugnch and added the check engine shift light and some other little stuff . I was not really paying attention to what he was telling me. But thank you guys. I will get the vtec wire on there asap. We just bypassed the vtec pressure switch because the engine did not come with one :/

It did not come with one since the OBD2 Accords don't have the pressure switch. (Thank GhostAccord for this, he figured it out first)

It shouldn't, the ECU needs to see that the car is going faster than 6.2MPH.
