What oil for b16a
So im finally making the leap and going to be purchasing a JDM obd1 b16a for my 90 EX sedan. Im pretty much set on everything, but have herd a lot of talk about different engine oils on these engines. I have always ran castroil gtx in my ls and DOHC ZC. But figured since im dropping a few dollars on this engine maybe i should think about a semi synthetic or full synthetic motor oil. would love to have some feedback from anyone. Would it be worth the extra few bucks for some peice of mind?
I love castrol GTX Oil, run it in all big and small blocks, and in my ls vtec. If anything run regualr non sythentic oil or semi sythentic oil at best. I dont like full synthetic personally.
I mean its really up to you. When you take crude oil from the earth and refine it into motor oil, you will always have some impurities in it. But sythetic is a chemical compoud made by man in a lab, which does not have those impurities. Some say sythentic is smoother in their cars, other say that it is to slick and causes glazing and other issues, but some performance cars come with sythentic from the factory, so take your pick. You wont see a 5 hp gain from running sythentic, so if thats your reasoning then I would say no. But if you want to protect and keep your engine in good shape then it is more important the type of oil and the frequency of the change. I say dont waste the money buy regular castrol or semi sythentic castrol.
I personally would stay away from quaker state, valvoline, and royal purple
I like castrol, mobil1, amsoil

how many miles are on the engine? that's how i usually determine what oil i'm going to use... engines with lots of miles (dad's car has 290k) usually get a high viscosity from me. 10w30
