Whats up HT. I was wondering if I would get a ticket here in California for tucking my exhaust behind my bumper and just adding a "dump tube" to the tip. I have 2 1/4 in piping with stock gsr catalytic converter and stock headers Its pretty much it's completely stock besides the 2 1/4 piping and the es oval muffler. I have a pretty nice suspension set-up but The exhaust is just getting in the way so I wanted to tuck it. I have done research but can find nothing on tucking the exhaust only on laws against modifications if catalytic converters/headers/intake systems but not of tucking the exhaust.

Kaiba - lol I was about to but I rather not have to pay for an emissions ticket.

 

Jimster480- yeah that's what I thought as well. It won't change anything with the emissions so it shouldn't be illegal.

 

Here's a thought. Why don't you ask the people that are responsible for issuing the tickets?

 

Been there, done this! Tuck it any where you like, but DON'T get it loud enough for the cops to hear it. The loud exhaust is just an excuse to pull you over, and they'll start askin' you to pop your hood. It's all a mind game.

To help us out with the various questions and problems we have, it's like you telling me to go ask a mechanic how to change axles ,I can just come on here and get that information. So take out whatever's in your *** cuz in all the other threads you're on your just talking **** and not being helpful. Er no. That's NOT what it's here for. Maybe resonate some common sense and maybe even some initiative and make a simple phone call. You could have gotten the answers straight from the horses mouth. Just because the guy above may have gotten away with a modified exhaust, which I understand is reason enough to get pulled over in Cali, doesn't mean YOU will. And I doubt he's a lawyer or a cop.

I can see it now. "But officer, they said on H-T that it was legal."

 

As said above, just give CHP a call and ask them.

If you're afraid of calling or don't want to call, logic would probably be.. tuck it and as long as it's not loud, you should be okay.

 

Well 99.9% of the time that so horse your talking about just bs's because they don't want their time being waisted they arent always honest And I didn't say that's the only reason this site is here for but its a huge part of it.

 

And I called previous to posting this thread and the 3 different stations I called gave me 2 different answers

What were the answers?

 

The first and last basically said that if the car is not loud and Has all the emission components as it came from factory then it should be fine

And the second place I called said that depending on the officer pulling me over that he'll make the decision appropriate to the Situation. They didn't give me much details.

 

I love how they always mention stuff like this AFTER the fact.

And you started this thread why?
I heard "It should be fine BUT it's up to the individual officer if they want to hassle you or not."
That translates to "Take your chances."

Here I called for you. As long as everything is stock oem you have nonething to fear. You must maintain your stock or oem replacement cat and smog equiptment. Moving the muffler higher in the frame of the car does not considered it moddified. If used to increace noice is. Your local chp. There is no penal code for pushing up the muffler.

 

I would just ask somebody at a smog test only center.

 

I personally wrote all the vehicle codes for California. I'm giving you the OK.

It is their job so they aren't wasting time just putting good use to our tax dollars that pay them.

That's why you always get the information of the person you speak to so you can be like " I called the DMV and spoke to a Betty Id#2345 that said it was legal". That way you can hold them accountable for giving false info should it arise.

It all comes down to if the cop is having a bad day because he can write a ticket even if your are in compliance of all laws but it is up to you to fight it.
