differences between f23a1/a4/a5
hello all
I've been doing a little bit of research lately as i'm looking to do some work to my personal car (01 dx, f23a5) and I'm just purely curious as to what's the difference between the engines and how it translates into the a1 and a4 variants having ~15 more horses? I'm a bit of a newbie so bear with me but if someone could walk me through the differences it would be appreciated.

welcome to the awesomeness of accord driving
F23A1 has low emissions and vtec for 49 states, in like all accords
F23A4 is the cali version with ultra low emissions and vtec, that will throw codes at you for opening the bonnet to quickly on a cold day
F23A5 is the NON-VTEC version in the base model DX
those others have more power basically cuz of VTEC, which if you dont know by now, changes your valves lift and timing in the higher revs to make more power
here's a video explaining what vtec is and how it works
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcT_ZyY3F0k
it's an old *** video liek for boats or some crap which is why they say "at 4500 rpm" which is totally not tru for the cars. the accord hits vtec a lot actually as low as 2500 rpm depending on a **** load of things the computer checks, like load, throttle position, speed (you gotta be going over 15mph i think)
i'm not sure, at all, but if you're a noob like you say, have fun with it first and learn more about it before trying to do a head swap and ecu swap
on a related note, you have the base model which has NO rear sway bar, my ex-l came with a 16mm and the body roll riding in the back seat was scary, i've taken it off for fun and it was scary,
the TL A-Spec 20 mm rear sway bar will make you **** yourself how big of a difference its going to make in the handling, its way more planted and stable, also its HELLA cheaper than the aftermarket ones taht are only 22mm
http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/o...0-SEP-A11.html the bar is only 35 bucks- on sale nobody knows why its that cheap, expect to spend another 30 on the end links and brackets but you really will flip out at the difference

for best bang for buck go with oem
the '04 TL 6-speed sway is 20mm, the previous model CL/TL type S is 19mm.
the 04 tl speed sway will fit on all usdm accords 98-04
04 TL sway part #'s:
52300-SEP-A11 - Rear Sway Bar (called a spring by acura/honda)
52306-SEP-A11 - Bushing (2 needed)
52308-SEP-A00 - Holder for bushing (2 needed)
BTW, if you have a DX accord, you need to purchase ENDLINKS for your rear sway bar
