Default JDM Type R Grill(?)

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so hello! Very glad to be entering into the realm of Honda!

So I'm currently looking to imrove the exterior of my "new" 97 Civic EX and the first thing I want to do is insert a badgless grill, and have read that I should be looking for an OEM Type R grill. I'm sort of on a budget, so I figured I'd give eBay a try, and I found a few "JDM" grills, and I think I found one that looks promising. But I figured I'd run it through some people who actually know what they're talking about and what to look for. So here's the link to the product: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Civic-...b6935a&vxp=mtr

Is this another dud? And if so can you send me somewhere with the part I am looking for?

Thanks!

ebay grills are fine, go ahead and get one. just paint it to match the car and call it day, or leave it alone and get a "JDM" H badge

I have that exact grill on my coupe. it fits surprisingly well and is inexpensive. however the gaps in the mesh are larger than the OEM grill and worst of all....Its fake.

Thanks a lot for the quick responses! Lol will people really give me a hard time about a "fake" grill? I mean I knew it was going to be a knock off. I mean plenty of people drive Si clones and regardless of them having real Si parts on them, a fake is a fake. So should I worry? I do plan on bringing this car to meets and fests, so I don't wanna be that guy.

I've had these "eBay" Si/Type R grilles on all my Hondas. Who cares if it's fake? It's just a grille. And for $23? Hell yeah.

Well I don"t think people will give you a hard time, unless the grill doesn't fit so well. You do have them types of people that no matter how good the replica fits, they will still bash it;reason cause its not a OEM. Just make sure sits well. If I can give some advise you can always take your stock OEM grill, if you still have it and cut the inside out, go too home depo and get some chicken wire\ that's what I call it and spray it black. Thanks EKNOOB, there are always haters.

So it's between this one or the first link I posted, i'll repost the first link. Which one of these will be the better looking buy?

2nd link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-BLK-T-R-...61d310&vxp=mtr

Or the first one?

Out of these two, it seems like the first link is the better out of the two. The seller have 36725 sells with a 99.0 percent feedback. And sold 342 of these grills and no negative feedback, that I can see. Make sure you do your own research on the seller also. I can't stress that enough to people that want to buy off ebay.

Funny story, I was showing my girlfriend the OEM TR Grill, and the two knockoffs I've posted, she said compared to the real thing, they both look like garbage. She also began pointing out the differences, and said that if she could notice, enthusiasts anywhere will notice and that she would save up as needed to have the real thing. So I'm going to take her advice for once, and buy the real Grill.

She also asked why the grill should be my first mod? Because I am getting it painted from silver to an appealing shade of blue, and would like the body to be in order first. Will be posting pics of my EK soon.

Thanks again for all your help dudes! I appreciate it and without the feedback here, I would have gone and bought the wrong grill and in the long run ended up unsatisfied.

I didn't mind my cheap JDMshit grill.

But I found a 2000 EM1 grill on craigslist for $100 and have never regretted it. Fits even better and looks better too.

I was also going to get one of these, but decided that I need a new bumper anyway, I also want the CTR lip. I can get the bumper, grill, and lip for $500 all OEM

like i said before, its an ebay part, it wont be perfect however ill never spend 100 dollares on a grill... lol. its a grill. its does NOTHING performance or anything useful. so why worry about it? its like asking someone should i paint my calipers red? sure.. it wont do anythin but be red but wtf, who cares. 98 percent of the hondqa crowd has knock off parts, if they say the dont, there liers. sorry for the rant but some customer came up here earlier and started fussing cuz his rotas he bought 3 years ago are starting to fade.. theres nothing wrong with knock off astetic pieces, there just that, FOR LOOKS,

Agreed no point in spending money on a lot of parts that won't contribute to the way the car drives! Unless you have the extra funds and it wouldn't hurt your budget by all means go ahead. I wouldn't I myself prefer function over form! But that's just me so go ahead and by the eBay one hey it won't hurt to try new stuff out!

I say listen to your gf. Oem is king. The eBay stuff doesn't look too bad for the price but you can not go wrong with factory parts. It's more expensive for a reason, because it fits and looks like it's supposed to be there, well because it is! Call me crazy but I spent almost 2 bills on a oem edm grill. If your happy with being like 98% of the civics on the road ten go ahead and go eBay, if you want it done right the first time go with the good stuff
