Clutch Suggestions for boosting
well well the ebay cheap simple build ran 100's of passes and the clutch was overheated in 5th doing several 5th gear pulls. my track time is also affected and was never at max potential anyway.
Stock gremlin B16a....T3T4 ebay turbo on 7 soon to be 10 PSI. LSD B16 tranny.
I want to know what the racers suggest. the car has ocasional work/daily use....and will probably see 400HP at some point but is mainly for drag racing at 200torque or less (1.6)...for now I do have a gsr for later.
from my research a stage 3 or 4 XTD or Yonaka would do the trick, but I can get deals on ACT, Excedy, competetion. I will not use a bully.
suggestions? I need to bang into the 12's, my clutch, using chrome, and a B16 trans is limiting me right now. we knock off one thing at a time and practice driving along the way
thanks!
key points:
what clutch, should i upgrade the flywheel or resurface the stock one? this clutch/flywheel is over 10 years old trans shifts really well I do not want to lose the smooth shifts i have right now

ive become a big fan of the comp clutch. ive got the stage 5 in my car, and one of my friends has a stage 4 in his boosted b16. ive owned exedy and act clutches in the past and the comp by far takes the cake
I was leaning toward a competition...does the logevity of the clutch plate change with a higher stage? & would an aftermarket flywheel benefit my time over stock?
competetion stage 4? hmmm
competetion stage 4? hmmm
Ive only used ACT so I cant comment on any other brand..
but I have the 4 puck unsprung for 3 years now and still holding up to 241lbs/tq

i used to go through 2 act disks a year, or about every 5000-6000 miles. when id replace them there would be fingernail size chunks of the friction material missing. my power numbers are in my sig, its nothing out of the ordinary
Do you have to keep your rpms high to get it out of first with your stage 5?
How long is the break in times ?

for break in i just didnt kick its *** for the first few hundred miles. i kept the boost a little lower and didnt launch or bang gears, but i was still driving it pretty good. comp recommended a long break in and i think act recommended a shorter break in. take it as you will, but i really think its just about lapping or getting the friction material on the surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate evenly without any excess heat or warpage
I had a stage 5 in for about 2-3k miles, it wasnt to stiff on the pedal. Never NOTICEABLEY slipped, but due to having to pull the motor out due to bearing issues, there were three pretty big chunks missing out of it. Buddy pulled his off the same time as i did and it was the exact same results. We made a little more than 400lbs of torque, but CC says they are good for 450ft. I got a 6 puck (heard of more people having luck with those) and had everything resurfaced to see if that helps out any. If not, time to never use CC again...

when you're near the limits of a clutch like that and drive it hard, things happen... its almost time for a twin plate for you
