Default 95 accord wont start

hello im helping a buddy work on his 95 accord and he put a new tranny, from a pull a part i believe, and we put a new starter in and conected the wires and tested the battery and its got power, when i turn the key it almost sounds like the bendix isnt fully touching the flywheel, also hearing a slight grinding sound as it trys to turn over, it wont turn over at all, any ideas? i thought maybe the starter was the wrong one, but the part number matches the right starter, its an auto, with an f22b2

fly wheel bolted I would assume he is saying.
Take the starter out and test on the floor, put power from a battery to it and see what happens

OP do you have an auto or a manual tranny ? Manual trannies have flywheels, auto trannies have flex plates or driver plates. Obviously if it's a manual tranny you don't have a torque converter.

Im gonna start by having him exchange the starter for a different one and go from there, if that doesn't work i guess were gonna pull the tranny and take a look at the converter.

Pull the starter off, stick your hand in the hole and see if you can spin the converter around with your fingers. If so, then get under the car and bolt it on. It's like 4 10mm bolts that attach the converter to the flex plate.

If the converter is bolted on, grab a battery and some jumper cables, then test to see if your starter is good.
