D15B1 backfired and now won't start
I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this. I'm new here, and I tried searching for my issue, but to no avail. I found bits and pieces, but nothing with anybody having the exact issue I have.
I've never had any issues with the car whatsoever. I let my friend borrow it for 2 days. He claims he parked it at work, and went about his business and later got a call from his boss saying the car rolled down the road and hit a pole. From what he is telling me, the car mysteriously popped out of gear, and somehow bypassed the e-brake and rolled backward down a hill and hit a pole directly in the back. Sounds like total bullshit, but how am I to prove it? anyway, to the point. As I said, I've never had any problems with the car till he took it for 2 days.
We've been banging the metal out in the back, and got a new hatch for it and got it put together. Started it up to take it for a test cruise around the block. Backed out of the driveway(car started fine, was idling and revving fine.) Put it in first gear and drove about 30 feet to the first stop sign. Made a left, and got about 50-60 feet till I heard, BANG and then the car died. pulled over...Wouldn't start. I don't have a compression check guage, but will rent one if I have to. I've read a lot about timing being off, or the dizzy being no good. I'm just wondering where I should start. what I should check first. I'm a self-educated back yard tinkerer, and I don't consider myself to be any type of super car savvy or anything, hence why I'm here looking for some direction.
Thanks a lot for your interest in helping this dreadlocked hippy with a broken down EF hatch. I love that little blue car.

Will do this morning ... I have an event coming soon and don't want to miss it
Any of you aware if it safe to vent the crankcase through the valve cover nipple only ?
I am pushing oil in my intake and would like to block the OEM breather can (backside of the block).
I'll install -10 fitting in front of te Valve cover but have not receive the catch can kit yet.
So I would like to pug the PCV hose and put an el'cheapo filter on the valve cover in the meantime ... good idea ?

I've haven't seen any backfiring no start problems but based on crvtims suggestion and my exact discovery, the rotor button not being secured seems to be the culprit!!!
