Default How Smart are You? - VSS Problem

Ok gents here is the deal. I have a 91 hatch with a B16 swap. It had a Y1 non-LSD cable transmission in it and it ran great.

Well I wanted to be a little more grippy on the track so I bought a Cusco clutch type LSD off ebay only to find out it didnt work with the final drive in my transmission. SO I then went and got the final drive and ring from a 00Si (better anyway) which does work with the transmission and LSD, but now the VSS doesn't work with the LSD. SO THEN I contacted CUSCO USA who told me they were sending the correct VSS gear and shaft to me. Well it doesnt fit in my current cable VSS because the shaft is to short (please see picture below for size difference.)

QUICK RECAP
-B16 w/ non-lsd y1
- CUSCO LSD
-00 Si Final drive and Ring
-CUSCO shaft to short (on right in picture)

SO SO SO my question is does anyone either know;
A) What VSS I can use to make this $110 paperweight of a VSS shaft work, or
B) is there any possible way to bypass the damn VSS. It is not needed as this is a track car so I don't care if the speedometer is working, but I do care if the car keeps going in limp mode.

Thanks guys,
-josh

Unfortunately the 2000 Civic SI FD will not work in the Y1 as the splines on the coutershaft are different. You may be able to press the speed gear off the shaft and install it on the OEM speed sensor shaft if they are the same diameter.

The transmission works fine (actually you guys sold me 3 gears, a syncro rebuild kit, FD, and counter shaft for this transmission). It doesn't seem to be a problem with actual gears meshing as I ran on the transmission for over 8 hours by tricking the ECU that there was a VSS there (see pic below lol). It seems to be an issue with the length of the CUSCO VSS gear shaft VS the stock one. I understand what you meant by taking the correct gear and pressing it onto the other shaft, but it doesn't seem like this thing is coming off. That is why I was looking to see if anyone knows of the correct VSS that fits the length of the CUSCO shaft/gear, or how to just run without one and not use Mr. Ryobi. Even if I can find a VSS that is electronic and bypass the cluster to go straight to the ECU that would be fine with me. Just don't really know if that is possible.

thank you for your time,
-josh

I have seen some other domestic 4cyl cars do things like this and use the abs pickup as a VSS bypass, since you are not using it anyways... Just a thought.

^During my months of searching for a answer I did see a little something about that, but I am just not quite sure how to do it on the civic. I guess I would just tap the ABS sensor as the signal sending line to the ECU.

Cut and weld the shafts together, grind the weld down when you're done some everything is smooth. Make sure you weld it straight though.

convert to electro VSS at the tranny, use the shorter shaft, lose the power assist unit for the steering.

I am trying to find out if the shorter shaft will fit in an electro vss, and if it does how exactly to I send the signal straight to the ECU and bypass the cluster. Any input on this would be great.

thanks,
-josh

all just wiring, I suggest using a 96-00 plastic VSS as it provides more clearance around the rear mount.

The shaft is meant for the 92-00 VSS.

Instead of getting the signal from the VSS on back of speedo, run the needed wires to the VSS on the tranny. You will lose the factory dash speedo though.
