Icon6 1996 Accord engine fan not working

I am not much of a car person and was taken on a 1996 Accord 2.2L 4cyl. It overheated in traffic and I replaced a thermostat, coolant temp sensor and relay. The AC fan comes on but the engine fan does not. I hot wired it and the engine fan motor works fine but I can not get it to come on. Any suggestions? It also seems to idle high, up around 16.

well if you already hot wired it just go buy a switch and put the switch someone on the dash and run the fan like that...that would probably be the easiest thing to do

First check the ground of the wire going to the fan, to the negative side of the battery. Should read less than five ohms. Then go to the relay, and see if it is getting 12V. There should always be 12V, on the line side, but when called for there should also be 12V to the coil side. Make sure you have both. Look at the diagram on the relay, you should be able to figure out line/switch and the coil side.

Thanks it seems I have all kinds of wiring problems and the AC just lost the refridgerant. ANyone use the can refridgerants I see advertised on TV? Do they work?

I buy the 134a stuff at my local parts store. It's all about the same. You might want to be sure the leak is fixed before just refilling it though. R 134a can get really expensive if you're adding a can a week.

Did it dump the whole charge, or is it just low?

If it's a pin hole and you're just low, the refrigerant with stop leak will probably work. If it's a bad seal or a big hole and you're completely out of R 134a, you need to replace the bad bit and then pull a vacuum on the system. Once the vacuum holds steady for an hour or two, you can assume that the leak is fixed and disconnect the vacuum pump and refill with R 134a.

Getting moisture in the system is very bad ju-ju.

That would be the lazy way to do it.
