Default D series axle problem

I installed my driver side axle yesterday. Got everything put back together(ball joints etc) And I noticed that their is a small gap between the axle and transmission. There is a rubber seal on the transmission. Is their supposed to be a small gap there? And advice or info would help. Thanks.

sometimes the snap ring can give you a little trouble when intalling the axles back in, a punch and a hammer will usually make it go in, there should not be any gap

When you have the lower ball joint unbolted and disconnected: line up the axle, put the axle nut on lose, pull back the rotor a bit and slame it forward. Repeat until it clicks in. This has always worked for me. Another trick is to have the gap on the snap ring facing downward.

Thanks everyone for the replys. And whited that came across my mind of putting the gap on the snap ring facing down. Thanks for the help.

Ah much is a small gap? I use the rotor trick all the time, onthing that wasent included in the other guys post is to make sure to install it in the hub before you try and bang on it... Dont pull out to far maybe like 3/4 of an inch or you might mess up the axle.
