1991 Civic hatch D15B1
Hello everybody. I'm new to this forum as I am not normally a Honda guy, but I've been recently searching for a reliable, efficient daily and I found a 1991 Honda Civic (base 4-speed stick) in decent condition on Craigslist. The body is in great condition, and the asking price is low. The only thing I'm worried about on it is he says the engine is only firing on 3 cylinders. The owner seems to not know much about it or about cars so he doesn't know how to explain what it's doing or what cylinder is misfiring or things like that and it's too far away to just go check out myself. If I'm going to make the trip, it's going to be to purchase it.
I've searched a bit about problems and I couldn't find much other than the usual problems that could cause a misfire. I've read a few threads where the stumped owner of a misfiring D15B1 replaced spark plugs, wires, and distributor to no avail. A pattern I seemed to notice was people suggesting to check out one of the fuel injectors for either being clogged or not having a solid connection.
What I'm here to ask you all is what are all the possibilities that it could be and if you had to take a guess based on the very limited information I'm giving you, what would you bet it would be?
Btw, he says the car is completely stock except for the muffler and wheels. It only has 104,000 miles and doesn't have the typical Honda rust in the wheel wells. The body is in pretty great condition for the asking price. Is $800 too much for him to ask for a car in otherwise good condition that I would not be able to test drive and would have to tow home? Or am I crazy for considering this?

Well, seeing as how we don't know where u are I can't really say if the price is fair. $800 in Chicago won't really get you anything running. But I say buy it if you are mechanically inclined. Can't be too hard. Any engine needs only 3 things to function. Air fuel and spark. Rule out which its not getting and go from there. I would get it for the low miles and no rust. Personally
Thanks for the reply. It actually is a Chicago craigslist. Not sure I should tell you that since you might want to ****** it up from me
. No but anyway, I imagine it can't be something too expensive. I might go for it anyway.
Here's the car in question.
