I took my 94 Del Sol into the Honda Dealer yesterday and had the transmission fluid changed. The reciept says they used 10w30 motor oil. Is this Normal??? Is this the same as the Honda Manual Transmission Fluid???? Should I take it back and say to put the right stuff in there???

 

maybe it was misprinted and they acutally used the HMTF or they simply just used the 10w30. it is in most cases ok to use that oil.

 

Whenever I go to the dealer and ask for mtl, they always ask me what year car I have. I asked them once and they said its because only the newer trannys use the mtl, but who knows.

 

I think they screwed you over. Kinda the same thing but doesn't have all the additives like the Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF). Such as keeping all the bearing quiet and protection.

The part number should have been #08798-9016. Should have been billed for 3 quarts.

Retail for $4.43.

I would suggest to go back and tell them why they used motor oil. A big differences among the two.

And "No", its not normal for them to used 10w30 motor oil. Especially for a dealer who gets tons of this stuff at dirt cost.

I just received mt HMTF from AH Motors a couple days ago. This will be the first time I change my tranny fluid on my 1.8. It doesn't look that difficult. I'm guessing my c1 has about 25K miles on it, did I wait too long?

 

The Honda MTF is far superior to the 10w30, try adding some lucas additive for some additional protection...

 

10w-30 can be used, but it's suggested that you only use it long enough to get the correct fluid (Honda MTF)

 

Honda owners manual recommends putting in oil if your changing it.
Its funny that the dealer ship put it in though.

I used AMSoil 10W30 synthetic last spring when I changed my transmission fluid (oil).

I know Honda MTF works better than regular 10w30..I know because when i was repairing the axles on my brothers CRX, we had to drain the tranny fluid to take out the axles, and we replaced it with 10w30 motor oil from pennzoil. I didn't tell my brother this, and immediately as he drove it, he complained about the tranny being not as smooth, so i drove it also..and yes..Honda MTF makes a difference

I use Honda MTF only on both of my cars.

 

10W-30 is fine. Straight 30 is better. Honda MTF is the best. Especially run the HMTF if your tranny is making noise. Believe it or not, you can also run 1qt of ATF and the rest 10W-30. My friend is a tech at Acura and this is what they do with the GSR tranny's which make noise. In fact, this is what I am running now, since I didn't have any HMTF.

 

Yea, I called and spoke with the dealership Service Rep and said wtf??? I asked how come they didn't use the HMTF? He said that the 10w30 was fine, and that was what they use when they do Tranny Drain Service Special.
I know better know to INSIST that they use the HMTF, it only would have cost about $5.00 more....... Live and learn.......

What I've been searching for Now time to bargain at the local Honda dealers

 

from experience, ive used plain 10w30, honda MTF, and GM synchromesh. honestly i will never use anything other than gm stuff. its like gold man, do a search on here for synchromesh. just my two cents

 

I also heard of using penzoil synchro mesh additive, from what i heard its the fountain of youth for manual trannys.

 

Alot of shops do that where they put engine oil in the tranny, stupid but it works until you grind.
