Icon2 Need advice, trans problems for a 96 GSR

I've had a ticky noise coming from the trans while the car is in neutral and the clutch pedal let out. Just recently it changed to a roar/whine.

Other transmission symptoms ive noticed, Shifting into gear can be difficult occasionally. Sometimes I have difficulty getting into 4-5th gear.

I have 220,000km on trans. Do you think it Is worth it to rebuilt the old trans or replace it entirely?

from the symptoms and w/o watching the video (no sound here). i'd replace it.

if i had to guess.. seems like a bearing has failed and you've ridden it until it's worn everything else out.

Input shaft bearing but you will need to pull trans apart to inspect.

One or more of the 5 bearings in the trans (besides the 2 diff bearings is bad.

If it's the ISB and you're in Canada like I think you are the bearing and seal are about $50 if you get a good discount at Honda, IIRC retail is another $20 or so.

Completely disassemble the trans and clean and inspect everything thoroughly. You'll often take apart a transmission that works fine to replace a bearing, or just to inspect it and then find a bunch of stuff wrong with it. Synchros worn out and messed up sleeves and gear teeth are common. That said you don't know what you have till you open it.

Sounds like an input shaft bearing...Just fixed one of those here in the shop. But, it can be other bearings as well. With the mileage you have, I would suggest changing all the bearings and seals while you are there. You are already there. Check your top end gears for oil deprivation. That will cause issues with gear engagement.

Thank you for your input guys, I appreciate it.

To add fuel to the flames it seems whatever it was has let go. I went to leave a light at a intersection, and the car wouldnt move with the car in first, it just revved. Played With The gears and managed to get it through the intersection into a merging lane and the wheels started locking up.

Car seems to be stuck in gear while in neutral and won't shift into any gear except 2nd[the gear I was in when it locked up] It will idle wih the clutch pushed in. Initially it was completely locked up, But in the process of getting it off the tow truck it sort of jarred loose enought to roll off the truck.

I've found a few Gsr trans for 400-500 range, I figure it might be easier at this point to replace it.

Once I replace it I'll bump this thread with my findings.
I had changed the fluid roughly 5-10k km ago, along with the axle seals.

Sucks since its my only mode of transportation[had to take my bike to work lol]. Doing my clutch and motor mounts while I'm at it.

Old one torn apart

The problem was the trans fluid used. That is the last time I listen to somebody else blindly in regards to what fluid I put in my car.

Picked up amsoil MTF for my replacement.
