Si or EX
Hey all, I am in the market for another Civic.
I narrowed it down to two.
First is a 2006 Civic Si from my good friend with 50k miles on it with a cat back and cold air intake, rest is stock. He takes awesome car of the car and keeps up with all the maint. Never beats it, he wants 15 for it.
Second is a 2007 Civic EX from craigslist, with factory Nav. It has a aftermarket header, exhaust, intake. as well as it is lowered on skunk2 springs and a rear camber kit. with 18's and also has HID's he wants 12200 for this car.
So what are the main difference between the Si and EX? will the EX be a lot more slow and have a less sporty feel?
Both a manual. I like the look of the Red EX on craigslist and love that it has fac nav and has the mods done and is lowered already...
The Si was taken care of very well but it is in a color i dont like too much and no nav... I rather spend 12k on the EX but if the Si is a better deal I would have no problem spending the extra cash.
Any suggestions?

If gas mileage isn't a huge concern for you (the Si will get high 20's, low 30's), the Si is a MUCH better car all-around than the EX.
It requires "premium", which can be 91. 91 costs 20 cents more per gallon than 87 around here, which comes out to about $2 more per fill-up. Not a big deal.

If you want to risk it sure. Ive never ran less than 93 in any car i own, cept the truck.
But even at $2 a gallon it also burns it faster and dependin on how heavy your foot is? Its even worse.
Just food for thought. Gas adds up quick.

Risk what? A lot of places don't even have 93 (I've never seen 93 in my area). You should only run premium gas in your car if it needs it; some cars will get lower MPG with higher octane gas if the motor isn't designed for it.
In most areas of Canada ( where I live, and no, we don't have snow all year long!) the highest octane rating you can get is 91. Some of the southern areas like the city of Toronto will have 93, but that is rare. The octane rating is dependant on a lot of things, but climate and altitude play a big part. In the lower US where temperatures are rarely below freezing and summers are almost always 'roast your *** off' hot, a higher octane gas such as 93 will be more beneficial because the higher octane is more resistant to pre-detonation. Where temperatures are moderated and altitudes are higher, lower octanes are required because teh gas wouldn't ignite as well. Just a little FYI for you.

Both are bad choices, IMO.
A. Never do business with friends...especially not good friends.
B. I would never buy off Craigslist. Plenty of people do...I don't trust it, personally.
I would look for a CPO Civic at one of your local dealerships.
I average 20mpg (95% city) in my CSi with intake and no reflash. With FP, that'd be probably 22-23mpg. And driving like a grandma, I'd easily be in the 30s.

^Warranty doe.
17k for a Civic that is under warranty for 40k+ miles...or 15k for a Civic that could break down on day 2...which is the better option?

I've got an 06 EX GG sedan (48,750 miles) and an 08 SI TW sedan (11,800 miles).
The ex gets 28 mpg city and 37 hwy. The si gets 26 city (no vtec) and 35 hwy.
Yes, 93 octane costs more, but the Si is the car to get.
Absoluty no reason the get the EX.
