USA Peeps Help Me Out On Sylvania Silverstar Bulbs
How much do these bulbs cost for 2 (9005)
What retail stores sell them in your area?
I don't think you can buy these in Canada, that is why I am asking you guys for the help.
Anyone using them? How are they compared to Cool Blues?
Thanks.

Eh, screw that. I'd say go HID or go stock white halogen bulbs. Don't screw around with lame blue lighting, it's not worth the police hassle, and all it gets you is reduced visibility.

i'm interested in the silverstars as well...my friend told me before that he could get them for me for around $45-60 US dollars...but i dont know. I hear they are the best fake HID lights out and shine reallly good
Uhh, Silverstars arent blue. Plus they aren't even in the same class as the lights you might find on ebay. a 9005 conversion with silverstars is definitely worth the $50 and he can spend the $450 he saved on performance.
Those blue bulbs are cheap ricer shop *****.... the silverstars are in a friends gsr and they are MUCH brighter then stock and improve visibilty GREATLY... I could NEVER justify spending $450 on headlights.... if I ever did that kind of mod I would do these silverstars, its a bang for the buck

However FWIW, the light output is pretty much the same as 9005 Cool Blues or any normal OEM 9005 bulb. Cool Blues can be had for $15-$20/pair, so you are in reality paying about $30-$35 more for whiter light. I had SS's for about 4 months, until one of them burned out on me (defective bulb). I went back to my Cool Blue 9005's, which have been used for over a year now w/o problems, and those will stay until I can afford HID.

I have 9005 Cool blues and visibility has increased noticeably. They actually don't give off that ricey bluish light, despite the name.

I have the Silverstar 9005 conversion on my teg, and I am happy with the results. Unlike the rice blue bulbs, you can actually see when it rains. You can get them at AutoZone, and Schucks Auto Supply. You should try either of these places web sites, and Im sure Pepboys would also carry them. We don't have a Pepboys around here. Overall I think there great, unless you have the $$ to blow on a actual conversion. And for all the pigs that bust for this, the silverstars are 100% legal.
The SS 9005 conversion is worth the money. Greatly improved visibility and a crisp, white light emitting no blue at all. I've had in on my teg for a while and love it.
I got it for $50 at Autozone...

After reading all this crap, I went out and just now bought the silverstar 9005's for like $20 each at autozone.... main reason is I hate not being able to see the road in the rain, and they look nice (seen them in a teg in person)....
Be back, have to dremel these bitches out.... you guys dremeled BOTH notches correct?

Yes, just dremel both notches out in inside and you have to dremel about 3mm on the outside notch so it fits.

9005 Sylvania Silverstars cost about $24.99/ea.. so the pair will be around $50+ tax.. comes out to about $55 here in CA... you can find these at most Autopart stores here in CA... I bought mine at Kragen/Checkers/Shucks Autoparts.. .they also carry them at Autozone and PepBoys....
yeah I'm using them and for $50 I can't really complain.. the light is white (not blue) and it puts out a lot of light and in the projectors it doesn't really blind people.. I've had them for several months/maybe a year and haven't really had any trouble w/ them in terms of blowing out, getting tickets, or people highbeaming me...
the conversion was really simple and the light is white and visibility is good.. Sylvania Silverstars

i too have the 9005 silverstars, but on my '91 civic hatch. i have to agree with everyone else and say that they are brighter, and whiter than stock bulbs. my friend with a '96 ls has the cool blues, and they are bright, and really white too. perhaps we can compare them side by side to see if there is any real difference.
one other thing, on ads i've seen in like car and driver for the silverstars, they mention a $10 rebate. i got my bulbs at kragen and they gave me the mail in rebate, but i had to ask for it.

Maybe you shouldn't hate on something you have no experience with. Silverstar bulbs are NOT "lame blue lighting". When used for a 9005 conversion, light output and color is greatly improved.
The silverstars aren't special at all, it's the fact that they're 9005 w/o the porcelin coating on the tip of the bulb.

but from what i understand (which isn't much), the 9005 has a higher power rating than the 9006 (70 watts max vs. 60), and has a higher lumen output (1700 vs. 1000), making it a brighter bulb by quite a bit. The silverstars also run hotter, which i think effects the color of the light (whiter).
i'm getting this info from the little pamphlet that came with the bulbs.
