Default 96 Civic - questions about outer handle and power lock for rear hatch

Ok, I have a 96 CX hatch and am eventually doing an all power swap. Haven't really been able to find some answers to a couple things.

Can i just swap in the outside handle from a 99-00 Hatch onto mine?

And a buddy of mine has a lock on his the sticks up from the middle of the inside... is there a power lock on some models that works the hatch as well?

the latch assembly is different on the 96 then 97-00 so it would probably be a lot of work and require changing the hatch and latch on the car. plus additional wiring for the rear popper (not even sure you can get a factory one) . i don't think coupes had a electric trunk release so it would need to be run with the coupe floor harness.

Nope. you will need the entire rear hatch in you want the 98-00 latch.
see this thread - https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/96-97-98-00-rear-hatch-interchange-info-why-they-not-plug-play-2310088/
you could however use a "trunk popper" solenoid for opening the hatch of your 96 to unlock it via remote or a switch inside the car.
for the 98-00 you can run a power wire and relay to the hatch and hook up a door lock actuator to lock/unlock the hatch that way.
